Heartstrings in Play

Chapter 5

Two months later I go back to work as if nothing ever happened. I just stay to myself now. I do not even go out with Sam or Kat. After a long day of work I just go home and go for a run. About an hour later I get home and  I look at my phone and still nothing from sage. I take a deep breath, set my phone down , and go sit outside on my porch.
I know he said he would come back but it's already been two months. I get up, walk inside, and get ready to go to the club because I really need a drink . About an hour later I'm ready to go , and work calls so I answer it.
- Hello you got Mariah what's up.
I said as I answered the phone.
- So you're the nurse on call.
the doctor said.
- Depends on who wants to know.
I said back in a testy tone.
- Mariah relax It's Cole. Neil said we could get ahold of you if we needed a nurse.
He said in a calming tone.  I take a deep breath.
- I'm sorry Cole. What's up?
He rolls his eyes.
- Were you headed somewhere?
He asked me.
- I was just going to the club why?
He laughs.
- Come by the hospital. There's something wrong. We have a code blue.
I hang up the phone, get in my car , and drive to the hospital.  As I walked in and got to my office. Cole walks in my office.  He looks at me.
" You actually go to the club ?"
He said in a dominant tone as he leans against the door post and crosses his arms. I just roll my eyes.
" Just show me the chart so I can get going."
He hands me the chart.
" You're a feisty one, I like that."
I roll my eyes and look at the chart.
" From what it looks like he has broken bones and ribs. "
Cole looks at me.
" What?"
I ask him as I sit on my chair at my desk. He walks to me
He looks at me he walks out of the room
I leave the hospital and go to a club. That was close. I thought to myself.  Thirty  minutes later I made it to the club. I drink more than I can handle. It gets to about midnight and somehow I end up home in bed. I wake up the next morning and there's a note
- Hey baby girl, I told you I would come back. I brought you home after I hurt a few guys for touching what was mine. Remind me to not leave you by yourself next time. I'll see you tonight amore. - sage
I read the note and smiled. He brought me home. He came back and I drunk to much champagne I'm so stupid. I go about my day like normal. I'm going to visit my family. I went shopping with my mom. We shop for hours on end.
"So how's your love life?" She asks.

" Really mom?" I say laughing
She laughs.

"I only asked because there's a cute guy over there."

She points over to the left side of the mall. I look and see both Cole and sage.

" Mom, we got to go now."
"Why what's wrong?" she asks.
I tell my mom everything about them both. We leave thirty minutes later. After we leave Sage shows up at my house. I walk through my door. I walk to my kitchen and sage sneaks up behind me and covers my eyes.
" Guess who ?" he said laughing.
I remove his hands and uncover my eyes. I turn around , and hug him.
" Oh my god. Your back. "
" I told you I would. I will always come back for you."
I smile at him. He hands me a box.
" What's this?" I ask him as I look into his eyes.
He kisses my cheek and tells me to open it. I open the box and smile.
" Oh my god it's so pretty."
He smiles at me , and puts the necklace around my neck.
" I love it sweetie. "
" I thought it looked like you , so I just had to get it for you baby."
He puts some of my hair behind my ear and starts to kiss my neck.
" I missed you so much. "
" Sage what are you doing?
" You just left. I was so broken. I thought it was me for so long. "
He stops and puts his arms around my waist.
" Baby it was never you. I told you my brother wanted me to do some business while in Miami. There's something I need to tell you." He said as he took a deep breath.
I just look at him. I can tell he's broken with what he's got to tell me.
He looks in my eyes.
" I have a daughter. "
I backed away from him.
" You what?!"
My jaw drops. It was like Jake all over again.
" I have a daughter , and I'm married ,but it's just on paper. "
Take a deep breath.
" So what does that mean for us?"
" I want you, I will always want you."
" But you - "
" Remember what I told you that nothing was what it seemed to be ?"
" Yes but still-"
He kisses my cheek. Tears fall from my eyes. He walks to the car. I run after him and hug him.
" Please don't go, I need you."
" I'll always be there for you. you will always be mine. I promise when I come back next time I will be yours and only yours."
He kisses my cheek , gets in his car , and drives away from my house.
