It was if time froze.

Minho wasn't thinking. He couldn't. He didn't know how to function as he heard some man's voice on the phone. A random number only to be his actual dad.

After he excused himself from the dinner table, a weird feeling had set in in his stomach which was the first thing that made him believe that something was up. The second thing that had made him believe this wasn't just anything was how he willingly went to answer the phone even though it could have just been a scam call - this time he didn't believe it to be.

He answered the call once he was outside in Jisung's garden, keeping his usual chilled tone. "Hello?" He spoke calmly expecting to be met with a random scam caller. But, he wasn't, he was met with a soft sigh.

"Minho? Is that you?" The man on the phone spoke. Minho furrowed his brows a little "Who is this?" He asked becoming skeptical. The man took a sharp breath, seeming almost scared.

"It's me...dad" He trailed off his announcement. Minho didn't believe it. His eyes widened and lips parted slightly at the pure shock that rushed through his body. He saw Jisung walking over to him with a worried look, his gentle touch on his arm soothing him a little.

Minho looked at his face for any form of comfort but despite his efforts he found none as his mind clouded with the utter shock that his dad..his actual dad was on the phone. "Minho? Can you hear me?" He asked.

Minho must have fallen silent for a while "Y-Yeah..." He trailed off, his eyes staying on Jisung's "I can hear you...Dad"

Jisung's eyes widened in shock now too. So this wasn't just in his head, this wasn't just a dream. Minho heard the man sigh with relief "Thank goodness...I thought you were going to hang up"

"How...did you get my number?" He asked sounding like a a mere fragment of himself which broke Jisung's heart. "I asked your mother" His dad spoke "I had written it in many cards I sent you for your birthdays but I never got a reply" He chuckled.

Minho's eyes widened a little making Jisung worry more, he tugged his arm a little. Minho gulped before putting the phone on speaker "You...You never...gave me...any cards" He mumbled feeling tears well in his eyes. His dad hummed confused "I..I always did" He spoke softly "October 25th" He added.

Minho felt his legs go weak, he sat down against the outside table. Jisung gestured him to sit on the actual seats that accompanied it as he listened to the conversation. "You never got my cards?" His father asked. Minho shook his head "No...just...one this year"

His father sighed deeply "I assume they kept them from you huh?" He sounded almost disappointed. Minho gulped and hummed not knowing what to say "Don't worry about it Minho, I'm happy with this now" He reassured.

"But...if...if you only asked my mom...now for my number...why did you..wait" He asked. he knew the question made no sense. He wasn't thinking, he couldn't think. Jisung held his hand lightly, rubbing circles on the back of his hand with his thumbs.

"I...I wanted to be apart of your life Minho" His dad admitted. "I ran away from it and then realised that it wouldn't be right to just...not let you grow up without a dad..But your mother wouldn't let me back" He explained. Minho kept his eyes on Jisung's hand holding his.

His dad continued "She wouldn't let me see you, I tried everything to get to see you...But then she met the guy she's with now and...He made it even harder for me...I'm still shocked she even gave me your number" He concluded. Minho sat there - frozen. Jisung continued to hold his hand.

Minho found his voice again "W-Why didn't she...let you see me?" He asked fearing he would break any second. Jisung was just as eager to know, to understand.
