"Murtasim, let me work. Stop overprotecting me, please. A woman can protect herself," she had pleaded, her voice laced with both frustration and affection. They had been sitting at the dining table, with Meerab comfortably perched on his lap, her arms wrapped around his neck. She leaned in and kissed him, a tender plea for understanding.

He had chuckled, the sound rich and warm, as he brought a spoonful of scrambled eggs to her lips. "I'm not overprotecting because you're a woman, turn and eat" he had replied, his husky voice sending a delightful shiver down her spine. She blushed as she chewed, her heart swelling with the love she felt for him.

"I'm protecting because you're my woman. My lady love, Moonbeam," he finished, his eyes twinkling with adoration. Meerab had gulped, her heart fluttering at his words. She turned her head slightly, their faces so close that his hair brushed against her nose. She looked into his eyes, her gaze innocent yet filled with a playful naughtiness that only he could bring out in her.

Murtasim raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips. "Jee janab" He said in a whisper

Meerab simply blinked her eyes, a silent communication that spoke volumes. His gaze fell to the side of her lower lip, where a tiny piece of egg clung stubbornly. Leaning in, he gently wiped it away with his lips, a gesture so tender that it made her heart race.

Her eyes fluttered closed, savoring the moment, the feel of his lips against hers. It was in these simple, intimate moments that their love felt the most profound.

"Why is it so sweet?" He smiled at her

A faint blush crept up her soft cheeks as she slowly opened her eyes, sighing.

"No one can ever top you in flirting" She said in a whisper

"Anyone who flirts with you; dies" He had said simply, as if it wasn't about anyone loosing their life.

"Murtasim?" Meerab had said, her voice laced with a mix of fear and surprise

"No questions M y love; We're getting late; Eat please" He dismissed her gently, holding her close as he fed her another spoon.

As the memory faded, Meerab opened her eyes, the present rushing back in. She felt a pang of longing, the terrace suddenly feeling too vast and empty without him. Her heart ached with the loss of those moments, the simplicity of their love overshadowed by the complexities that had driven them apart. The sun continued to rise, casting long shadows, but none could compare to the shadow that now loomed over her heart. "Will it stay like this forever?"

She shifted in her place as the house help knocked on the glass window. Meerab turned towards her back, "Meerab bibi; Dua bibi is on the call; khan has sent it" She said handing the phone to' Meerab.

"He's home?" Meerab asked

"Jee, agaye hain" The woman replied

Meerab nodded as she took the phone.

Meerab sat on the edge of the plush sofa, her fingers tracing the delicate patterns on the cushion. The phone pressed to her ear was a small lifeline to a world outside the mansion's walls, a connection to someone who cared.

"Yes, Dua, I am fine. He takes care of me," Meerab said, her voice carrying a sadness she couldn't quite hide. She tried to sound reassuring, but the weight of her emotions seeped through. She glanced around the room, its once warm and welcoming atmosphere now feeling cold and distant.
