Does Forever mean nothing?

Opening the door, his heart sank when he saw the room was empty. Panic set in as he scanned the room, hoping she might have just stepped out for a moment. His gaze fell on the hairpin that he had dropped before loosening his tie. He bent down and picked it up. But she was nowhere to be found. He rushed down the hallway, his mind racing with possibilities. Murtasim checked the office rooms one by one, his anxiety growing with each passing second. The quiet halls seemed to mock him, each empty room amplifying his fears. He called out her name, his voice echoing through the corridors, but there was no response.

His heart pounded in his chest as he reached the last office room. He flung the door open, only to find it vacant. Desperation clawed at him, and he leaned against the doorframe, his mind racing. Where could she have gone? He thought about the business dinner going on outside, wondering if she had returned to the main hall. He retraced his steps back to the bustling dinner, his eyes scanning the room for any sign of her. The laughter and chatter of the guests only heightened his anxiety. He pushed through the crowd, his gaze darting from one corner to another.

He spotted Laila, her face a mixture of anger and defeat yet determination was still etched on her face, "Meerab ko dekha hai?" He asked

Laila turned her face towards him, "Why always her Murtasim?" She asked

"Laila I do not have time for your nonsense. Meri biwi ko dekha hai tumne?" He asked again. The urgency in his tone was damn evident

Laila trying to gain the heartbreak shook her head in a no as she spotted the faded lipstick mark under his lower lip.

"Meerab," he murmured under his breath, feeling the weight of his mistake pressing down on him. The room felt suffocating, each minute that passed without finding her a heavy blow to his heart.

He finally approached the women she was talking to earlier, who were engaged in a conversation with a group of more members. "Excuse me, Uh-Have you seen Meerab, my wife?" Murtasim asked, his voice strained with urgency.

Murtasim's eyes told how panicked he was as concern was flickering in his eyes. "No, I haven't. Is everything alright?" The woman who stood the closest replied.

Murtasim didn't answer. He had no answers. He turned away, his mind racing. He made his way to the terrace, the cool night air hitting his face as he stepped outside. The view of the city lights stretched out before him, but it brought no comfort. He looked around frantically, hoping to see her figure amidst the shadows.

Meerab sat quietly in the car beside Farid, her hands folded in her lap. The city lights flickered past them, casting fleeting shadows across her face. Farid's concern for her was palpable, and as he glanced at her from time to time, he couldn't help but notice the sadness etched into her features. He tightened his grip on the steering wheel, unsure of how to broach the subject that had been weighing on his mind.

Farid recalled the moment Meerab had approached him at the event, her eyes filled with a quiet plea. She had asked if he could drive her home, her voice barely a whisper. Farid had immediately noticed the strain in her demeanor, the way her shoulders slumped slightly as if carrying an invisible burden as Murtasim's coat hung over her shoulders. Without a second thought, he had agreed, understanding that whatever had transpired between her and Murtasim, she needed to get away for a while. It wasn't just her words but the depth in her eyes that had compelled him to help, to be there for her in a way that she desperately needed.
