5. DON'T GET BANGS.

STEVEN WALKED BACK HOME, HIS phone pressed up to his ear as he lied to his mum. Refusing to talk about how badly he had messed up.
"Yeah, you know, I think she really liked me," He commented, his eyes glancing down at the bouquet he still held onto, "She loved the flowers. Yeah, well, I'm gonna bring her round soon, I think. Yeah, I think you'd love her. Yeah, she's got a great sense of humour. So...Anyway, I'll tell ya more 'bout it tomorrow. Love you. Laters, gators."
He moved his phone away from his ears. Placing it back into his pocket before swapping it for his keys and entering the building. Sighing as he walked into the elevator and pressed the button for his floor. When he reached it, he exited the elevator and began to walk to his door. His eyes travelling further down the hallway at number twenty-seven.
Venus' flat.
He looked down at the box of chocolates and roses in his hands. With a sigh he walked past his own door and stopped in front of Venus'. Guilty rushed through his body as he raised his fist and knocked. The guilt infecting him all the way down to his core. He could hear a couple of muffled voices. One that he knew for sure belonged to Venus, the other to an unknown man. Both voices going quiet at the sound of the knocking.
He kept his eyes cast downwards. Knowing exactly when Venus had come to stand at the door due to the light from under the shadow suddenly becoming obscured.
Venus stood on the other side of the door. Looking through the peephole at Steven standing there. Rocking back and forth on his heels. His eyes nervously looking around.
"I'm sorry," He told her, his voice slightly muffled, "I really am. I got you these..." He lifted the chocolates and roses up for her to see through the peep hole, "I understand that ya don't want to talk to me, but I hope you will let me explain one day."
She could feel her heart breaking at the sight of him. She saw how sad and tired his eyes looked. His shoulders slumped down, a large frown on his face, something that looked unnatural for the usually grinning Steven Grant. He looked like a kicked puppy and part of her wanted to open the door.
"I'm truly sorry, Venus," He said one more time. She watched as he bend down to place the chocolate and flowers in front of her door. With a sad smile directed at the peep hole, Steven turned around and walked away.
Venus let out a shaky sigh. Pressing her head against the wooden door and closing her eyes momentarily. When she heard his door opening and closing down the hall, she finally unlocked her own, picking up the gifts he left her before going back inside, locking the door behind her.
She smiled sadly at the gifts in her hands as she walked back towards the living room. Sighing as she fell back onto the couch. Closing her eyes and throwing her head back onto the couch pillow.
"Was that him?"
Venus lifted her head up. Looking at Nick Fury's face on her laptop, "Yep. He left these..." She said, lifting the gifts up to show him.
"That seems sweet of him," Nick pointed out. Raising an eyebrow.
Venus nodded. She glanced at Nick but refused to meet his gaze. Glancing over behind his shoulder where she could see Earth out of the large window.
"Don't let love pass you by."
Venus shook her head, "I don't do love," She shrugged, frowning.
She never got to experience love before. She didn't expect anything to ever change with that. She was created and moulded into a monster. A killing machine. Not for someone to fall in love with and spend the rest of their life with her. Stability wasn't something that Venus ever expected.
Nick gasped, "What? Not even your old friend Nicky?" He asked teasing, pointing to himself with a look of fake sadness.
Venus rolled her eyes, "That's different."
Nick grinned, "Well, just don't get bangs over the guy. You don't have the face shape for them."
"Rude!"
"Ignore him. He's jealous that he doesn't have the face shape for them..." Carol grinned as she walked over, bending down to come into frame and look at Venus, "...I think you'd look great with them."
Venus grinned, "Thank you! At least someone is nice to me."
Carol chuckled, "How are you holding up?"
"I'm okay," Venus nodded, "Just don't know how to sit still. So if you guys need anyone finding or threatening, let me know."
"Actually I do need someone finding," Nick nodded, "Find me one Venus De Luna and tell her to slow down. Let herself enjoy life once in a while. Give that guy another chance."
Venus sighed, "I dunno if she'll listen."
Nick shrugged, "Well, she's gonna have to. I won't be needing her help until I know she's lived a little."
Venus groaned, throwing her head backwards, "You drive a hard bargain, Fury."
"Is that a 'yes, Nick, I'm gonna start enjoying my life now'?" Nick asked, raising a brow. Carol tilted her head, smiling encouragingly at Venus.
Venus looked back at the pair. And sighed, "Maybe."
"Great doing business with you."
"You better let me know how the proper date goes," Carol winked.
"Urgh. I hate you guys!"
