...Cathy in the chair, sipping water and reading a book.
...Cathy on the sofa. In handcuffs. Lock picking her way out of them for the fun of it.
...Cathy on the floor behind Joel. Stretching like she's got a black belt in yoga.
...Cathy in the kitchen. Cooking food.
JOEL
on the computer. Ready to give up.
Cathy is lying on the sofa behind him, book in hand. The cover shows that it's the sex-ed classic "Come as You Are."
CATHY (almost teasingly): Ready to give up?
Joel looks at her. A glance at the cover. Then, at the view behind her.
Outside the huge windows, a Bald eagle is rising on the canyon winds. Then, as if the bird itself spoke to him, he turns back to the computer.
Types. A few seconds goes by.
JOEL: Fudg...
Cathy walks over. Rests her hand on his chair.
JOEL : Your dad's computer is in snail mode because it's SENDING massive amounts of data. Upwind, online.
She looks at him like she doesn't understand.
JOEL: It's used as a slave node in a DDOS attack by a worm. Called Stuxnet.B4 (suddenly remembers) Oh, crap!
CATHY: What? What is it?
JOEL: It's a modified Stuxnet!
Cathy stares at him, this time sincerely clueless.
CATHY: Is it bad?
Joel exhales loudly.
CATHY: Can you fix it?
He looks at her.
JOEL: Fix it!? This is a spin-off of a military-grade digital weapon designed to take out industrial compounds like nuclear weapons facilities!
CATHY: Wow, I'm glad I didn't get that off a porn site... So, can you fix it?
Joel raises his eyebrows and looks at her in disbelief.
CATHY: I mean, how do you know you can't fix it if you haven't ever tried? (beat) Can you fix my dad's computer or not?
