"Papa!"
A little girl, no older than six, threw open the door to her father's underwater lab, a Godzilla plush held in her hand as she ran up to her father as he stared ahead of him.
Hiro Mochizuki turned from the sea window at the sound of his little girl's voice.
Akari.
His little moon, the brightest light in his dark sky.
Hiro knelt, opening his arms for her as she ran towards him, "Akari, my heart, what're you doing down here? Did you slip from your mama?"
His wife, Gia, a wonderful and charming Italian woman he met on a business trip to the states, was meant to be watching her upstairs. However, he supposed his little star was as mischievous as her mother and managed to slip from her mother's watchful eye.
"We're playing hide n' seek," she giggled, putting a little finger over her lips, "Sh!"
"Ah!" Hiro nodded his head, "And does mama know you're playing hide n' seek?" He raised a brow at his daughter, and her bashful and sheepish look told him what he needed to know.
"Akari..." he said in a scolding tone.
"Uhm, is he ok?" She tried to divert her father's attention, glancing outside the large sea window. Outside, just beyond the cliff Hiro's lab resided on, a magnificent beast laid on the trench floor. His large form was curled up, settled in a deep sleep, his slow heartbeat ringing on a monitor within the lab in a steady beat.
Godzilla, king of kaiju, a being who protects the peace of earth defending it from anything that threatens it. Kaiju, human,...or anything else. For years, Hiro's family has watched over the king, they were the keepers of the great kaiju, his protectors when he went into his deep slumbers. The king only rose when something went awry, he took care of it, then would slip back into the ocean's depths when his duty had been done.
That's how it's been for as many years as his family has existed, and his current resting place resided off the coast of New York.
Akari loved spending time with Hiro down in his lab, watching over the kaiju, caring for him and keeping his vitals in check. Often than not, Hiro would work, and Akari would sit by the glass, playing with her toys, or reading her story books to Godzilla. He loved that his daughter enjoyed this job, keeping an eye on the king, because one day;
...This job would be hers.
"He's fine, my sweet...sleeping as always," he bounced the girl in his arms, walking over to the glass. Akari leaned forward, placing a small hand against the glass, her die eyes widening in wonderment as she stared.
"You know, Akari," Hiro turned his daughter's gaze back to his, "One day, the job of watching over Godzilla will be yours."
"It is?"
Her father nodded, "Yes, it's an honor that's been passed down for many years in our family, wherever the king goes, we follow. It's our duty to keep watch over him, and when you are old enough, the honor will be yours, and if there comes a time he rises again, you will follow wherever he goes."
Akari blinked up at her father, then turned back to the glass, tilting her head as she gazed at Goji.
Seemed like a lot for a little girl like her, being the keeper of the king of Kaiju kind, but it was meant to be.
"Hiro!" Gia burst through the doors of his lab, "Have you seen Akari!? I turn my back for a second to start dinner, and she was-"
"Mama!" Akari's attention was immediately drawn away, such is the short attention span of a child. At the site of her child, Gia let out a relieved heave of breath, keeling over with her hands on her knees, her auburn hair fanning around her like a curtain.
