"What the hell!" The shriek came out just in time with the duo pulling their lips away from each other.

"Shubi," Shahneel was the first to talk, eyes slightly wide as she pushed Ishan's hands from her waist.

Her brother looked at his best friend who'd she just parted from, except for the hand that held hers.

The wheels were turning in his head.

"Shubi," Ishan repeated to the flabbergasted man beside you.

They were both out of breath. Due to vastly different reasons, of course.

'Am I seeing things now?' You wanted to ask but kept your silence, looking back and forth at the best friends, and then at Shahneel.

"It's-" Ishan started, unsure of what he was supposed to say first. "It's not-"

"It's not what it looks like?" Shubman raised his eyebrows, challenging him to say that.

"No- I mean-" He fumbled with his words. "It is what it looks like. But..."

You were still trying to process a lot of things, and glanced over at Shahneel.

Neither of you wanted an obituary to be published.

The four of you just stood there, with Shubman flicking his graze from his sister and Ishan, to their hands that held each other.

He didn't say a word and that made you all even more nervous.

You looked at his unemotional face and then the duo holding hands.

It seems that they both were indeed your brother and sister-in-law from the very beginning.

Despite the gaze- No, that was a glare. Despite the glare directed at the held hands, Ishan didn't waver and let go.

Good. Because you would've killed him if he let go.

Fifteen minutes later~

You sat beside Shubman on the couch, having not spoken since the revelation that wasn't really one.

In fact, none of you have said a word since the cat was let out of the bag.

After three minutes of intense staring, he turned around and walked to the living room wordlessly, and the three of you followed.

Ishan and Shahneel sat on the opposite couch, with a space of half meter between them. Slightly out of respect until they explained things, and mostly because they didn't want Shubman's eyes to hurt from glaring too much.

The intense staring continued for a few more minutes, and you all sat there like statues.

You know, when midnight rides turn into midnight raids.

(A/n: I know that sucked ._.)

"Since when?" Shubman broke the silence, his voice not giving away any emotion.

His sister and his best friend looked at each other briefly and then back at him.

"New Year's," Ishan said in a quiet tone.

The younger one threw his hands up in the air, with evident disbelief. "Almost two months," he snapped.

"I didn't mean to," he said again, quietly. "But we did anyway."

"And neither of you cared to tell me," Shubman scoffed. "Did I become that much of a stranger?"

Almost cringing at his tone, you looked over at the helpless faces and guilt-ridden eyes.
