LAST NIGHT THE adults came back in after deciding that they were staying and that everyone was allowed to spread out into their own space. That meant that Lillian and Athena were upstairs in a room together. Lillian wasn't so sure about it. She was glad she had the comfort of Athena with her but she didn't like not being around everyone. She'd grown so used to it.

Athena finished filling some drawers with her clothes that she's neatly organized into a dresser. Lillian shoved all of her clothes into the dresser and plopped down on the neatly made bed. The room was a boring white but had two twin beds set next to each other. One had pink sheets, the other had purple. Lillian let Athena have the bed with purple sheets since she knew Athena liked purple, even though pink was not a color she really liked. She also chose the pink bed because it was closest to the door.

"Are you disappointed that you couldn't stay with Colton?" Lillian wondered.

"Yea but I think sharing a room with you would be fun." Athena replied as she closed a drawer and made her way over to her bed. "Did you hear we have school tomorrow?" She asked as she got snuggled under her sheets.

Lillian immediately got Athena a confused look. "School?"

"Yeah. Colton told me that the big kids go in the morning, little kids go into the afternoon." She explained. Lillian began to think about how her old school was. How kids used to pick on her for having trouble reading a loud, how they'd call her names and insult her for being so small. Wasn't she still a little too? Colton and Athena were both almost 14, Carl's 14. She was still only 12 and it didn't feel like it was getting colder any time soon.

"Wouldn't that mean i'd go in the afternoon?" Lillian asked quietly.

"Wait— How old are you?" Athena asked as she pushed herself into a sit, facing Lillian.

Lillian hesitated. "12."

"Oh..." Athena mumbled. "I can't believe i didn't know that. You'll be okay though. I'm sure there's some other kids you can meet." She tried to reassure Lillian, who sighed as she turned onto her side away from Athena. If she wasn't going to be in the same class as everyone else, then she wouldn't go.

The next morning, Lillian was woken up by Daryl as he rubbed her shoulder. "Lilli."

She stirred as she turned to lay on her stomach. "Hm?" She let out a hum but it was clear she wasn't awake.

"C'mon. Wake up." Daryl tried again. Lillian took a breath in as she turned her head, her eyes barely opening as she looked at Daryl. He looked ready for the day, his crossbow strung over his shoulder. She woke up a little more seeing it, her eyes opening more as she furrowed her eyebrows.

"Where you goin'?" She asked him in a sleepy voice.

"Out. Ya best get up. Ya got some school in a coupl'a hours." Daryl informed her as he removed his hand off of her and instead held onto his crossbow strap. Lillian turned to look back at Athena's bed. It was nicely made as if she never slept in it. A frown pulled at Lillian's lips as she buried her head into the pillow.

"No." She murmured into the pillow.

Daryl scoffed. "What?"

"I ain't going."

"Ya, ya are." Daryl argued.

"No. I can't." Lillian informed Daryl, her voice genuine.

"Why the hell not?" Daryl asked her frustratedly. Lillian huffed as she pushed herself up into a sit, pulling the blanket further into her lap as she looked up at Daryl.
