(Maia's POV)

The call had been brief, but it filled the diner with an eerie, heavy silence. Julia, Amalia, and I exchanged looks, our suspicion growing with every second of Y/N's forced, shaky voice.

Why did he sound so... controlling?

My gut twisted with anxiety. I'd only known Y/N for a short while, but I knew something was seriously wrong.

Amalia stirred her coffee absentmindedly, her eyes narrowed in thought. Julia tapped her fingers against the table in a quick rhythm, clearly agitated. Then suddenly, she snapped her fingers, making both of us jump.

"I just realized... money can solve this problem."

"What do you mean?" I asked, leaning forward, my heart still pounding from the call.

"Simple," Julia began, her voice gaining strength as the plan formed in her mind. "If we can't get him on kidnapping—because, let's be real, this guy has probably lived in this town for years and no one's ever noticed him—then we need to be smarter. This is a small town. Gossip spreads like wildfire. And you mean to tell me, no one has seen him around? Ever?"

Amalia nodded, her expression shifting as she began to catch on.

"Yeah, it's strange. Someone like that doesn't just blend in, not in a place like this."

I could feel the pieces falling into place but still couldn't quite see the full picture.

"Go on," I urged, needing to understand.

Julia grinned, a spark of determination in her eyes.

"We don't need evidence to get the police to storm his house and potentially scare him off. No. What we do is get the police to take Y/N into custody."

"Wait," I interrupted, frowning. "Wouldn't he just wait for her outside the station? And then... I don't know, grab her once she's released?"

"Yes," Julia said, her grin not faltering. "But that's exactly what we want. He's obsessed with her, right? If he thinks she's in danger—if he thinks she's being taken from him—he'll act. He'll get desperate and try to get to her. And when he does... he'll expose himself."

Amalia's eyes lit up as she caught onto the brilliance of the plan.

"So, you're saying we create a situation where he thinks Y/N needs rescuing, and in his panic, he'll make a mistake. Maybe even show up at the police station and blow his cover."

"Exactly!" Julia's voice was filled with excitement. "He's delusional. He already thinks he's in control of everything. But if we push him—if we make him believe that Y/N is slipping away, he'll reveal himself. And for good measure," she added, crossing her arms, "I'll make sure the police we use aren't local."

"Smart," I said, nodding slowly. "Because if the police are from this town, he might have some sort of influence or connections. Someone might tip him off or even look the other way."

"Exactly," Julia said again, her tone firm. "We get officers from a neighboring county involved. People who don't know him or owe him any favors. They won't hesitate to step in."

Amalia leaned back, biting her lip as she processed everything. "So, we call the police and tell them we're concerned about Y/N's safety. But what do we say to get them to take her into custody?"

"We'll have to be creative," Julia mused. "Maybe we tell them she's a potential danger to herself. Or that she's in an unsafe situation but won't leave on her own. That'll give them a reason to step in, no questions asked."

I felt a knot form in my stomach at the thought of Y/N being taken by the police. But as much as the idea unsettled me, it made sense. Damian wasn't the type to let go easily, and we needed a way to make him act before it was too late. Y/N was clearly in danger, and if we didn't do something soon, we might lose her for good.

"But what if the police don't believe us?" I asked, my voice tight with concern. "What if they think we're overreacting?"

Julia shrugged, though her expression stayed firm.

"Then we'll make them believe. We'll exaggerate if we have to. We'll tell them we've seen bruises, heard disturbing things in her voice, whatever it takes. They might be hesitant at first, but if we push hard enough, they'll act. The key is to get Y/N out of there and make Damian panic."

Amalia sighed softly, her eyes dark with worry. "This is dangerous, Julia. If this guy's as unhinged as we think he is, what happens if he does something drastic?"

"We're counting on it," Julia replied, her voice cold but resolute. "He'll show his hand. And when he does, we'll be ready."

I felt a pit forming in my stomach. This was risky. Everything about it felt precarious, like we were walking a tightrope over a dark abyss. But Julia was right—if we didn't act soon, Y/N's fate would be sealed. Damian had already taken her life away piece by piece, and we couldn't just sit by and let it continue.

"I'm in," I finally said, my voice firm. "Whatever it takes to get Y/N out of this, I'm in."

Amalia nodded beside me, her hands trembling slightly but her resolve clear. "Me too. We'll do whatever it takes."

Julia smiled, though there was no warmth in it. Only determination. "Good. Then let's get to work. We don't have much time."

As we left the diner, the weight of the plan settled on us like the mist that still clung to the town. It was a long shot, but it was all we had. And I couldn't shake the feeling that if we didn't act fast, Y/N would be lost to Damian forever.
