The 121 was going to Texas, and I got to ride with my two favorite paramedics Laurens and Sebastian. Francisco was also coming, he was a firefighter with the 121.

I couldn't believe I was actually a firefighter now, it seemed surreal honestly.

The blaze in San Angelo Texas has consumed up to 180,000 acres of land so far. Resources in west Texas had been stretched to their limits. They called the neighboring states as far as California and got a few stations sent to help with the wild fires by sending recourses and manpower to aid the fight. Dang, just a few days into the job and I was already fighting my first wildfire.

"Woah the air here is crazy why is it like that?" Sebastian asked stepping out of the rig. I scoffed at his stupid question, before I could answer Francisco beat me to it.

"Wildfires, that's why we are here. Eres tonto?"

I looked back at Sebastian who was just as confused as I was. "It's Spanish for are you dumb." Laurens confirmed. Francisco looked back giving Sebastian a wink and thumbs up.

"That's not weird at all."

We lined up in front of the ACI to listen for our instructions with all the other stations, did I mention the 121 was the last station to arrive because Sebastian can't hold his bladder?

"I'm Deputy Chief De León also the acting incident commander. For those of you just joining the party, welcome"

I gazed off into the distance and saw my moms station, the 118. I also saw Evan creepily staring at some girl, and I saw my mom swat it him for it so that was fun to see.

"I want to introduce my operations section Chief, Captain Owen Strand out of Austin"

A guy who I presumed is Owen Strand had stepped up after the Deputy Chief.

"The wind has shifted, it is now in the collision course with the city of San Angelo." He yelled out.

I looked to my left and saw Sebastian dozing off not paying attention at all. I held back an annoyed sigh and moved my attention back to Captain Strand.

"Here, on copper ridge." He pointed at the map. "We'll cut a containment line here and stop the beast in its tracks, that's how we turn the tide" he instructed everyone. I saw a few nods and positive reactions to his idea from the crowd of firefighters.

"I know your exhausted, a lot of you haven't had more than a couple hours of sleep in days"

I heard Sebastian scoff at that causing Francisco and I to send an annoyed glare his way.

"Speaks for himself I had a great nap on the rig"

"Then obviously he wasn't talking to you so cállate hermano" Francisco murmured, I saw a few eyes on us now and cleared my throat looking away from the glances.

"We're gonna get you up on that fire line, and you're gonna cut like hell. Good luck and stay safe!"

Everyone broke out into groups after that, I went to go grab a shovel and made my way back to the rig where I grabbed my yellow T shirt. It had my last name and station number on it. We only wore them when dealing with out of state emergencies.

Texas was a very humid place, I mean it actually felt like being slapped with a wet towel.

I closed the door on the rig and looked around for my team, I had no idea where Francisco was anymore, I knew that Laurens and Sebastian were at the base camp Medical unit so that meant without Francisco I was alone.

Dang, they are some betrayers.

"Hey Monae!"

I looked up confused searching around for whoever was calling my name. I'm the distance I saw Evan jogging over to me with a shovel hanging over his shoulder.
