-After a very weird call revolving around a guy who I assumed was crazy, this news segment completely changed my mind about it. This guy wasn't crazy, there was actually a live treasure hunt going on right now.
We had responded to a call with this guy who apparently went hiking on this steep mountain and broke his foot, looking for willow trees? He had his phone on him the entire time not to mention he had been out there for three days before he finally decided to get help.
He didn't even call 9-1-1. He sent a message in a bottle, yes I know how weird that sounds. The minute we got back to the station everyone was standing in front of the TV listening to this news segment. Taylor was the one on the television screen and I'm not going to lie she was a good reporter, I still have a small grudge against her because of the whole segment she did about the 118 and followed my mom around while she was dosed with LSD.
What could I say though, I'm a very forgiving person. Me and her had our talks and small conversations due to our mutual friendship with Evan.
"Hollis Harcourt died in his sleep last night at the age of 57, fans are intrigued by his death as he left this video behind for all of them."
The screen switched over to the video, it showed the guy sitting at a desk. The guy I assume was the one who died.
"Behold, my final gift to the city of Los Angeles. A rare and priceless treasure." With that, he opened the chest laid on in front of him revealing a ton of shiny gold coins.
A lot of gold coins.
"Though if I'd have to put a price on it for tax purposes, I'd call it about 5 million dollars."
"Woah, 5 million" Eddie replied taken aback. Who could blame him.
My expression quickly changed and I was in more shock then I was 5 seconds ago. This guy is loaded and just giving away all his money to strangers after he dies. I Miss when rich people would spend money to name places after them, not drive the city crazy.
"I'm gonna bury this chest, somewhere in the city of Los Angeles. If you are clever as I know you are one of you will find this chest, and the treasure will be yours." He explained.
"We spoke with Harcourts long time assistant Jeremiah Ruiz moments ago."
The tv switched the assistant talking about Harcourt.
"Hollis was.. passionate. He had high standards, but, he was a good soul. He will be missed" He told Taylor.
The television switched scenery once again.
"And we won't be forgotten, not anytime soon. According to his final video Hollis hurried that treasure somewhere in the city that was the setting for most of his work. A poem he recited is said to provide all the clues needed to locate it." Everyone exchanged a look at the last part. So all of Los Angeles was going to be out here trying to solve this stupid poem and that meant more calls for us.
This day was probably going to be worse then the time I said quie-
I mean the q word
"I walked along the rivers edge to hide my secret treasure." Chimney began to read off his phone. I scoffed flopping down on the sofa taking a seat next to Evan.
"Please stop reading that sucky poem, it's so terrible my eardrums are about to burst." I said jokingly, nobody reacted to my very hilarious joke as they were all too busy fascinating over this poem.
"A heron soared, a gray bridge roared, a bull frog croaked 'good measure' well, it's less of a poem and more of a riddle." Bobby corrected me.
"Okay fine then, it's a very sucky riddle." I remarked rolling my eyes at the correction. Whatever it was he could've at least made if grammatically correct. Yes I get it's supposed to be creative but some of the metaphors he uses don't even make sense.
