"Low blood sugar mom, not a fever!" I protested shoving her hands along with the covers off me. As you could probably guess my mom was very over protective when it came to her kids. The minute she took me into this house she raised me like I was her own. Which also meant overbearing me like her own as well, yes I had fainted in the driveway of Mr Harcourt. I was taken to the hospital and was given three glucose tablets, a glass of juice, and a small snack then sent home once my sugar was back to normal. My mom on the other hand was acting like it was the end of the world.
"Just lay down and rest, stop being such a busy body."
"Your lab partners are here waiting for you to study with them while you are in here babying me."
She rolled her eyes placing a glass of juice on my nightstand.
"I'm allowed to be worried, I'll leave you alone now though."
With that she planted a small kiss on my forehead before walking out the room. Finally. I loved my mom but boy she could be way too much at times, like way too much. I had been in the hospital a few times since starting the job but nothing life threatening so far, it was what you could expect in our line of work.
A bit of smoke inhalation from time to time and a few rolled, dislocated, or broken body parts. It all depends on how you went at the job. I've been in this line of work for a few months now and I've already had various injuries. It's just what you sign up for the minute you decide to become a first responder.
I was perfectly fine with the risk. My mom on the other hand, not so much. She was coddling me like a baby! It's just so
"Overwhelming! I hate when she's so overbearing like this.!" I expressed dramatically waving my arms around. Mateo who was on the other end of my IPad had been at the station, and was the only one available to listen to me rant. The 121 was on a call right now and it felt weird to talk to Evan about my mom when he was friends with her before me.
"Well I think she just wants what's best for you, she just doesn't want you to push too hard." Mateo reassured me. I rolled my eyes as it began to sound like he was siding with my mom.
"As somebody who works with my father I definitely understand the overbearing part." TK piped in behind Mateo. TK! Of course, I should've called him first. I mean, his dad is literally the captain of the 126 so that makes him extra worried and overbearing of his crew and son.
"My mom has way to much on her plate to be worrying about me. Guys she's literally in med school, working a full time job as a mom and first responder."
I saw Tk make a face at that, not a rude or mean face but a 'dang that's tuff' face. Which I couldn't blame him.
"Well when my dad was too overbearing I just became a paramedic." Tk then added.
Mateo looked back at him lightly punching his shoulder as my facial expression still had shock plastered all over it.
"Kidding." He rolled his eyes.
No help at all.
Before I could respond I heard the tones drop on their side of the call. "Ooh sorry gotta go lets hop on Minecraft later!"
"You play minecra-"
And the call ended just as Paul began to speak. I already knew Mateo was going to get clowned at the station and I nearly laughed just thinking about it. Back to the problem maybe this was something I needed to take up with Dr Portia, after all I hadn't seen her in two weeks or so. I know it's recommended to go to therapy once a month but in my case I've been going a bit more regularly then that. So I did decide to call and book a session for next Friday which I would be looking forward too. Accept for the fact the only session available is at 8am and I have a 24 hour shift to pull two days before then.
