The next day was here, and somehow Laurens and Seb still managed to read me like an open book.
"You look dead on your feet." Seb pointed out, he was sitting in the recliner eating a back of goldfish. He always found himself eating something so random.
"Thanks." I replied sarcastically. Last night I managed to get one hour of sleep, I hadn't been able to sleep through the whole night yet but hey, I was gonna get there eventually. I couldn't just push myself back into being me again. Healing would probably take time, and a lot of rage punching.
"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed." Francisco piped in coming up the stairs. He was still interim captain for another three weeks and then Cap was back, so I was gonna enjoy this week while it lasts.
"Yup we'll I haven't really been sleeping the best."
I bit back a yawn stiffing at the sound of the bell.
1 alarm fire at a family residence.
"Let's roll!" Laurens said, we had a pole installed recently and somehow the two paramedics were more fond of it then the actual firefighters. Watching Laurens and Sebastian slide down it might have been the highlight of my week, because they looked really stupid. I could've sworn I saw some of the other firefighters snapping pictures.
When we arrived on scene I noticed the guy standing at his backyard using a hose to try and put out the fire, he was very close which was also unsafe for him.
"LAFD sir back away from the fire." Francisco instructed the guy, soon after the ambulance pulled in behind us and Laurens stepped out heading towards us.
"No I'm not letting my house burn down, hurry up and stop the fire!" He shouted at us. I took an annoyed breath stepping between him and Francisco.
"We will but first we need you to back up and allow our paramedics to check you for any injuries" I told him calmly. He reluctantly nodded dropping his hose on the ground.
"Is anyone else still in the residence?" I asked, the moment I said that his face began to fill with worry and his panicking began once again.
"Charles , my- my son he's in the house still.!"
"Sir don't worry we'll get him out of there." Francisco reassured the man.
He looked behind him meeting the eye of the whole team looking for someone to send. I nodded at him heading towards the engine.
"On it cap."
With that I grabbed my gear and my mask so I was protected. The building was fairly secure so I was pretty confident it wouldn't fall down or anything, the fire was mostly in the backyard and hadn't spread that much into the rest of the house yet.
I stepped inside the home slowly looking around for any signs of the baby. What was that boys names again?
"Charles!" I called out, I crouched looking under the sofa and table. Without any luck I began delving deeper into the house searching every nook and cranny.
"Charles come on boy, come on your dad sent me!" I exclaimed louder this time. The fire slowly began to make its way into the house and I began searching more frantically, this kid was going to get burned alive.
What I wanted to know was why this home was oddly small for a family, dispatch said their was a whole family living at the residence.
