Annika holds the knife poised above the onion, blinking as she stares into the distance, the nightmare from a few hours ago playing in her mind.

The sun has hardly risen, and the mansion is still fast asleep.

Annika had ignored Shivaay who'd tried to coax what she'd seen in her dreams that had managed to leave her so rattled.

Exhaling slowly, she pushes down the knife, cursing loudly as a piercing pain shoots from her fingers and up her arm.

"Fuck!" She curses loudly. "Shit," she hurries to the kitchen sink, and turns on the faucet, holding her hand under the cold water which stings and soothes at the same time.

As the blood diluted and swirls down the drain, Annika startles hearing a childish voice, "I've never cut my fingers when cutting an onion."

Annika's eyes widen as she notices a sleepy Karthik placing a hand over his mouth as he yawns.

"Karthik," she whispers, surprised.

"Yes, that's my name," he looks at her with a look that implies: 'duh'. "What were you doing?"

"Trying to cook something," she shrugs. "I couldn't sleep so I thought to make breakfast for everyone——"

Karthik—— who'd been drinking from a glass of water—— chokes on his drink. "You can cook?" His eyes widen in disbelief.

Annika opens her mouth to acquiesce, before she halts abruptly noticing the look of utter shock and the surprise in his voice.

"Yes," she frowns. "Why do you look so surprised?"

"I've heard you couldn't cook even if your life depended on it," Karthik shrugs, clutching the glass between his palms as he tipped it and drank the rest of the clear liquid.

"You've heard," Annika stares at the bout in front of her, open-mouthed. "Who have you heard that from?" She blinks in disbelief.

"Everyone at home," Karthik shrugs, placing the glass back on the kitchen island.

"Eve-everyone," Annika echoes, shaking her head. Her eyes narrow, "Did that baagadh billa say that too?" As Karthik giggles, she clarifies, "I mean——"

"I know who you're talking about," Karthik smiles.

"How?" Annika frowns.

Karthik smiles, "It's a secret. I'm not supposed to tell you." He placed both his palms over his mouth.

Annika cannot help but smile and shake her head in amusement. "I'm making aloo puri."
