Annika tucks in her son, ensuring that he's warm and cozy in the chilling winter of London. She brushes away the hairs that fall onto his eyes, smiling gently.
"Are you alright, baby?" She inquires. He nods with a shy smile, blinking rapidly, as a tear rolls down his cheek. "Karthik?" She frowns, worried. "What's wrong?"
"N-nothing," his lower lip wobbles as he shakes is head.
"You can trust me, kiddo," she ruffles his hair.
Karthik sniffles, before smiling shakily, "It's just," he takes a deep breath. "I've known about you for so long, and I'd never even met you, let alone known you," he exhales slowly. "It feels surreal that you're here," he whispers softly.
Annika feels her heart tightening, before she leans in and kisses Karthik's forehead. "I'm here, baby." She leans back, placing a hand on Karthik's cheek, "And I'm not going anywhere."
Karthik raises a pinky, "Pinky promise?"
Annika's eyebrows furrow, "Pardon?"
"Papa said that whenever you wanted him to promise something, you'd always do this," Karthik replies, the radiant smile yet on his face.
As Karthik gazes at her hopefully, she finds she cannot refuse the bright young boy in front of her. Annika raises her hand to intertwine her pinky around his, and nods with a small smile.
"Pinky promise," she grins as Karthik giggles and snuggles under the covers.
"Will you stay here?" He peeks from underneath the covers, his kaleidoscopic eyes wide.
Annika swallows, before nodding. "If you want me to."
"I'll always want you to stay, Mamma," he yawns, closing his eyes as Annika runs her fingers through his curls.
She breathes shakily, digging her fingernails into her palm as the other brushes away the hairs that fall on his eyelids. "Goodnight, moya malen'kaya zvezdochka."
Karthik hums as he snuggles into her touch, a small smile on his voice. His cheeks are flushed as he grabs Annika's hand tightly.
Annika sighs, resting her cheek on the corner of the bed as she gazes at her child.
She lost seven years!
Nothing and no one else would keep her away from her child, ever again!

She coughs a mouthful of blood which rolls down her lips, as she struggles to move across the floor, laying on her stomach and pressing her cheek against the cold marble tiles.
"How cute," a menacing voice, which is eerily familiar, coos in her ears. "Reunited at last!"
She looks up at him, gritting her teeth. "Fuck. You."
