Annika bites her lower lip, hands fisting the bedsheet beside her head, as she gazes up at the ceiling with furrowed eyebrows.

Shivaay left twenty minutes ago, and hasn't returned yet—— which does nothing to ease her mind of the worry, ever since noting the tension which is palpable every time Omkara and Shivaay are in each other's vicinity.

Annika sighs, sitting up on the bed, and wincing as a sharp pain shoots up the side of her hip.

She'd forgotten to take the medications.

Annika opens her bedside drawer, frowning at the assortments of the medicines, and tilts her head at it curiously.

Shivaay's always been the one so far to keep track of her medical records and medications, doctor's appointments, et cetera.

Should I go and call him?—— she wonders.

Her eyes darted to the clock, and she frowns. It's far later than he usually goes to sleep.

Determined to call her uncaring-about-his-own-health husband, she stands up and walks down the hallway, halting at the end as she hears Shivaay's clear irritated voice.

"It has been long enough, don't you think? Annika deserves to know."

Annika pauses, eyebrows furrowing.

What?

What is he talking about?

What is it that she deserves to know?

And who is he talking to?

"About Karthik," he replies. "She has a right to know! She's his mother for fuck's sake!"

Annika stumbles, gripping the edge of the doorframe, as she feels her heart beating erratically in her chest.

She's his mother for fuck's sake!

She's his mother for fuck's sake!

Mother!

Mother!

She is a mother!

Annika feels heart constricting in her chest, as she presses her fist onto her mouth to stop herself from making a single sound.

She has a child!

She feels the blood rushing to her ears, and the wind being knocked out of her lungs.
