Chapter 7: Different path

It has been 3 years since I defeated the Firelord. It has been 3 years since I left Ba Sing Se. And it has been 3 years since I last saw Katara. A lot has happened these past few years. After I got help rebuilding the southern air temple, I moved on to all the other temples and started to rebuild them. The people I met at that villiage were willing to stay in the temple and help to keep it maintained. I had arranged air ships for them since Appa and I had to leave.

At the other temples, I managed to find people who were willing to help restore them too. After they were all restored, some people stayed there too as air acolytes. It felt good, knowing that the temples were taken care of in my absence.

It took me well over a year to restore all the air temples. After that I travelled all over the world. I've been in many cities and towns. I thought that by my presence, people would feel more safe and I could bring peace. And it worked. People all over the world praised me for what I have done and welcomed wherever I went.

Being the Avatar though, meant I had duties to all the nations. So I have been to the fire nation and had meetings with Zuko. The first time we saw each other after I left was pretty intense but we got over it. Whenever he needs any help or even if I need help, we help each other. He has managed to become a great firelord and Im glad I could be there to help him. It hasn't all been easy. There are still fire nation citizens who denounce my decision in imprisoning Ozai. There had been more riots lately and I had to travel there again. We did manage to get things under control rather quickly.

I haven't only kept in touch with Zuko though. Sokka has been helping his dad in the Southern watertribe as his right hand. About a year ago there had been some problems with the spirit portal, so I had to got there and we saw each other again. It wasn't too awkward with Sokka. We just continued as we were before that. I also managed to get the spirits under control and spend a bit more time in the Southern watertribe.

After that trip, I gave him a ride to Kyoshi Island where he reunited with Suki. Suki was not too serious on the matter either and we were good too. I spent a few days there to rest and also make sure the island was fine before I left. I made a few more stops over the months before I was asked to come to Ba Sing Se again. After arriving I was met with King Kuei who had decided to get married. He invited me to the ceremony, which I gladly attended. The wedding was nice and his wife seemed amicable.

I also managed to meet another old friend there. After the ceremony I met Toph just outside the palace. She was glad to see me but threw in a few jokes about my departure 3 years ago. We laughed everything off though and I visited her metalbending academy. It was still being build to be to her standards but it looked really good. She had made a good life for herself. We spent a lot of time together in Ba Sing Se to catch up on all the time we spent apart.

She told about all the things they did after I left and I told her about all of my missions. It was nice seeing her again but I had duty in Ba Sing Se too. There had been rumors about some Dai Li agents that managed to escape and group together. Apparently they were all over the world after the war ended. It was said that some of them had managed to sneak back into Ba Sing Se and had a hideout somewhere. That hadn't even been the biggest rumor.

The people had been whispering about some secret Plan the Dai Li were undergoing in some cave. The king was taking it very seriously but I thought they could just be rumors. It had been stressing me out for a few weeks because I couldn't find any trace of them. One day I decided to calm myself down and head into the city to relax.

Upon walking for some time, I headed into a tea shop and was greeted by a familiar face.

I was so relieved to see him and I think he was glad to see me too. We sat down for some tea and I told him about everything that has happen in the last few years. I told him about the Dai Li agents and about how stressed I was. He then offered me a solution which made me feel like an idiot. He proposed the help of the White Lotus that was residing in Ba Sing Se for the time being. I had completely forgotten. I guess I just thought they went home after the war and stayed there.
