"Okay, that's enough. Get out," I say and get out of my bed.
"Why have you been so eager to get rid of me lately?"
"I don't have time for this, Mia. I have to get to work," I tell her.
"You know, I could just stay here until you get back. Then you wouldn't have to call me at one in the morning to come over," she says, walking over to me and wrapping her arms over my shoulders.
"No, you can't stay here. Just get out," I tell her again.
"Fine," she says pissed off now. I roll my eyes. "I don't understand you at all,"
"Good. I never want you to," I yell at her as she leaves my room. I hear my front door open and close. I sigh and get around for work. I cover up the hickies on my neck and leave.
I get to work, and it's already busy. Goddamnit. Of course, it is. I walk inside and clock in.
"Hey, girlie," I hear Cassidy say, and I look at her. "How was the week off?"
"It was good. I'm glad I finally got a break," I tell her
"I bet. You worked every day for three months straight. I could never do what you do,"
"Yeah, well, someone's gotta pay the bills,"
"You're lucky you don't have any rent. Your parents must have been really rich to have a house so big and to own the land you have,"
"Yeah, I'm just so lucky. Not like my parents died, and it's the only reason I have the house," she looks down.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that," she mumbles.
"It's alright. You're right. It's just a really fucked up situation. It's not like I had a close relationship with either of them. They were too busy working all the time,"
"Yeah,"
"Where am I today?"
"You're working the section over there," she points to the other side of the restaurant. I sigh.
"The worst section ever," I mumble.
"I know. I'm sorry. But the rest of the staff here are all new people and you've been working here since you were sixteen. You're the most trained to handle something like that,"
"Alright, let's get this night done and over with,"
-
I lock the doors to the restaurant and start walking to my car. As I unlock my car, another car pulls up next to me. I look over and see Cassidy.
"Hey, when do you work tomorrow? I wanna go out and get drinks since it's a Friday,"
"I work from ten-thirty to five," she nods.
"You wanna get together at eight and get drinks at the bar by my house?"
"Yeah, sure,"
"Okay, I'm gonna invite some friends. Invite some of yours. Maybe invite Mia. I'd love to meet her," I nod, and she drives away. I sigh.
When I get home, I shower to get the food smell off of me and get into bed. I grab my phone and call Mia.
"I knew you would call me. Earlier than I expected. It's only eleven," she starts. I roll my eyes
"I'm only calling to ask if you want to go to the bar with some friends and me tomorrow night,"
"That'd be nice, actually. What friends, though?"
"I'm not sure. Cassidy invited me and some of her friends. She told me to invite you because she wants to meet you for some reason," I tell her.
"Isn't Cassidy someone you work with?"
"Yes,"
"Is there anything going between you two?"
"No, but even if there was, it wouldn't matter to you. We are not dating," I remind her. She sighs.
"I know. I don't know why you just won't date me. We're with each other all the time,"
"Only because you invite yourself to my house,"
"Or you call me and tell me to come over,"
"Only for one thing," I mumble.
"What?"
"Nothing. I'll pick you up tomorrow at seven thirty," I tell her and end the call. God, she gets on my nerves sometimes.
I scroll on whatever apps on my phone until I decide to go to sleep at almost three in the morning.
I wake up to a loud knocking at the front door. I grab my phone and look at the time. Who the fuck is knocking on my door at nine in the morning. I get out of bed and go to open the door. When I open it, I see my older brother, Nick.
"What do you want?" I ask him.
"I wanted to see if you were awake. Looks like you are," he says and walks inside.
"Only because of your obnoxious knocking," I tell him, and he laughs.
"Yeah, well, what would you do without my obnoxious knocking?"
"Sleep,"
"Well, I wanted to know if you wanted to come with me somewhere,"
"Depends. Where are you inviting me?"
"Our grandparents have invited me to come to their house to spend Christmas with the family,"
"That's like a week away. They really want you going all the way to fucking Florida from LA only to be there for a few days?"
"No, they asked me to be there a week ago but I couldn't and I'm glad I couldn't because I realized that you probably didn't get an invitation and I want you to come with me,"
"You know they won't want that. I didn't get an invitation for a reason,"
"Oh, I'm sure they're over it by now. That was years ago,"
"It was six years ago. They don't like the fact that I'm gay and they told me to never set foot in their house again. I haven't talked to them since then," I reminded him. He sighs.
"Please, I don't want to go alone. Besides, they're gonna ask how things are with Emily, and I'm gonna have to tell them that we broke up. It'll be enough drama to take their minds off of you for a few days, I'm sure of it,"
"How much time do I have to think about it?"
"You can text me by tomorrow morning. I never that night," I sigh and nod.
"Let me think about it. Now leave. I need to get around for work," I say, and he leaves. It really wouldn't be a good idea for me to go to Christmas with my family. Although, it would be fun to piss them off.
