I woke up to the sound of my alarm. I quickly went to turn it off and rolled over to see Billie, but she was gone. I looked around the room but she wasn't there. I get up and walk to the living room and see her on her phone.
"What are you doing out here?" I ask her. She looks at me and smiles. She has a sad look in her eyes, though.
"I didn't want to wake you up," she says, getting up and walking over to me. I watch as her eyes go to my neck, and a small smile forms on her face.
"You admiring your work?" I ask her.
"You do it all the time. Let me do the same," she says, making me laugh. I put my hand under her chin and made her look at me. I gently kiss her. There's a big smile on her face when I pull away.
"I'm gonna get around for work," I tell her, and she nods.
I get into the shower and get around. I cover all the noticeable hickies with makeup and go back out to the living room. Billie and I both walk out to our cars. I try to start my car but it doesn't start. Goddamnit! It hasn't done this in months. Why now? I try again. Nothing. I sighed and leaned against the steering wheel. My door opens, and I look up to see Billie.
"Come on. I'll take you to work. And then this weekend you and I are going to get you a new car, okay?" She says.
"I can't afford a new car," I tell her.
"Don't worry about that part. Just come on before you're late again, and Cassie starts another argument," I nod and follow her back to her car. This time, she opened the passenger door for me. I shake my head and smile. It's weird when she does it.
She pulls into the parking lot and park right outside the front doors. I sigh. I really don't want to be here. Especially if Cassie is here.
"Text me when you get off so I can come and get you," Billie says as I get out of her car.
"You really don't have to do that," I tell her.
"Well, I'm not asking. I'm telling you to let me know when you get off. You have no other ride, and you sure as hell aren't walking home. It'll take you all night. So, text me when you get off," she says in a serious tone. I nod.
"Yes, ma'am," I say and close the door, walking inside. I see everyone I'm working with, but there's no Cassie in sight. I wonder where she is. I clock in, and Violet comes up to me.
"Y/n, thank God you're here," she says in a relieved tone.
"Vi, why do you look so stressed?" I asked her.
"Cassie quit mid-shift,"
"She what? Why? What happened?"
"Nobody knows. We have no manager now. Conner can't come in. He's on vacation," I sigh. "You're the next best thing we have right now. You've been here the longest,"
"What am I supposed to do? Be acting manager? I don't know any of that shit," I tell her. She sighs.
"You're gonna have to figure it out. Conner said you could text him with any questions, but I gotta go. I have tables waiting," she says and quickly walks away. Damn. Looks like I'm gonna be here longer than I thought.
I texted Billie at eight thirty to let her know that I'd be off at nine. She texted back saying okay and that she was on her way. I locked the doors and made sure everything was put up and cleaned properly, and then I went outside and waited for Billie. About ten minutes later, she showed up. I got up and got into the passenger side. As I do, Shark jumps up and starts licking my face.
"Oh, hi, baby," I say and start petting him. "How are you?"
"You really had to work that long?" She asked me and started driving again.
"No, but I guess Cassie quit right before I got there, and I had to take over her job, and there had to be a manager here when we close," I tell her, trying to get Shark out of my face. She nods.
"Why did she quit?" I shrug.
"No idea. I just got told that she quit and I had to take over her job,"
"But technically, you're not a manager, right?" I nod.
"Yeah, but someone had to take over the job for today, and I'm the only one who sort of knows what I'm doing so," she nods. "I don't even know what's gonna happen now. They might make me a manager. Which I don't want,"
"Why not?"
"It's more money but it's more hours and more obligations. And you still make much even if it is more money," I tell her.
"You need a better job," I laugh.
"No kidding. I was gonna go to college but I don't have the money for it so that was thrown out the window a long time ago,"
"Damn, what would you have gone to school for?" I shrug.
"Not too sure. I was just gonna figure it out," she pulls into my driveway and I grab all my stuff and get out of the car. "Thank you so much for taking me to work. And then taking me home,"
"No, problem," I smile.
"Goodnight," I say and make my way inside. I take a shower and start getting around for the night. Right as I was getting ready to get into bed there was a loud knock at my front door. I sighed and walked through the house to the front door. I opened the door and saw Cassie. "Cassie? What the hell are you doing here?" I ask her.
"I wanted to talk to you,"
"Talk or argue because every time you speak to me you start an argument," she rolls her eyes.
"Don't start that. I wanted to apologize to you for that. I was just really pisse off. I still am but I know that you were just tired of my bullshit. And I also wanted to tell you why I quit," now I'm listening.
"Go on,"
"I'm moving,"
"Moving where?"
"Europe,"
"How the fuck are you gonna move there? Why are you moving there?" I ask.
"I'm moving there because I want a fresh start," I bet that has something to do with her now ex-boyfriend. I just nod. "I just want to be somewhere different,"
"Okay,"
"I made a request that you take my place as manager by the way," she adds. I sigh.
"Knowing that's the last thing I want to do," I tell her.
"It's either they bring someone new in or you do it. Which would you like?"
"Neither,"
"Well, that's not how it works, sweetheart. It's gonna be you whether you like it or not,"
"Is there anything else you want to tell me?" I ask her. She thinks for a second before saying no and leaving. Finally, I want to go to bed.
