I was not nearly as confident in our chances as the boys appeared to be as they led me through the short passage Eric had taken earlier. Like the chamber we'd fallen into, this too was carved out of crystal with a glassy floor. Though there was minimal light- provided by a low wattage glow up ahead- it was still comfortable enough to see by, due to the reflective nature of the crystals.
As we approached the opening to the large chamber beyond, I heard a low growl that had the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. Clearly the Cryst-Canis knew we were here. This particular monster was near on the size of an elephant, and so it wouldn't be able to fit in this much smaller corridor. No doubt it was waiting for us to enter, letting its meal offer itself up to its waiting stomach.
It would have be a beautiful thing had it not also been terrifying. The Cryst-Canis' fur was an icy white color lit almost blue in the reflected lights of the mana crystals that seemed to grow in the chamber around it. It stood before us, glowing blue eyes glaring as its lips pulled back, exposing teeth as long as my head in a mouth that may very well be as long as my whole body. It growled low and I saw the crystals that grew in various locations on its body shiver and shimmer.
"Wanna take it home?" Greyson asked with a side long smirk, his voice echoing in the chamber and causing the wolf to growl once again.
"Not funny." I stated, in no mood to fool around. Cryst-Canis may not be the strongest and deadliest beasts to face, but we were severely under manned and under geared. How these twins could joke around at a time like this, I wasn't sure.
"I thought it was pretty good." Smiled Eric, walking forward so that I had a blonde twin either side of me, both of them grinning broadly at the monster snarling before us. "I don't think the boss would appreciate the pet though..."
I sighed and eyed the monster. It was a good thing that monsters didn't follow the same instincts as regular animals or else this thing would trying to eat us, whether it could reach us in this tight corridor or not. But Monsters- though beings of flesh and bone (For the most part)- were not natural, and sometimes seemed to act under a type of 'programing' rather than natural instinct.
There were so many theories out there about the instances and their monsters. So many that it was hard to keep track or know what to believe. Just a few were: Alien experiments, government project gone wrong, alternate dimensions or god's new sense of humor. Heck, there was even a few months there where a hysterical theory that the U.S president was a lizard, and, during some satanic ritual the instances were summoned. I was pretty sure that that was more of a joke online than something people actually believed.
Staring blankly at the monster, I got sucked into the twins tom-foolery and said: "I bet Yejun would like to have it as a pet. It would give him unlimited Mana crystals at least."
Greyson laughed and smiled down on me. It was a little annoying that these two had nearly a foot of height on me. But given that I was barely five feet, I was used to people towering over me.
"That's the spirit!" He laughed, thumping me on the back. "This Yejun sounds like a pretty brave guy if he would keep a Cryst-Canis as a pet."
I glared up at the man, rubbing my stinging shoulder. "I was kidding. My brother would be terrified if I dragged this thing home." I looked the beast over once again. "Though, he would be over joyed to get some of those crystals..." I admitted, almost smiling at the excited look in my younger brother's eyes.
"Hnn." Greyson said in a somewhat put out sigh. "You already have a brother? Shame, we thought we would make you our sister!"
I rolled my eyes. "Ha ha, very funny. Sure, if we make it out of here alive, I'll be your unidentical triplet... So stupid." I added, only slightly quieter than the pervious sentence.
