16 | Birthday surprise

"You excited?" I ask Kate as we make our way to the entrance with Syd. Ellie had to grab something from her car which was taking too long so we just went with Syd.

We round the corner and there's few people gathering around for photos or videos. "Make sure you pose" Syd whispers to us so we pose but someone told us it was a video making me glare at Syd.

"Just kidding" she says as she tries opening the door but it was locked. Syd sighs and walks to the scan thing that's by the door and grabs her purse and scans it.

"I bet y'all left the door open for everybody else. I thought we were betting than this" Syd says coming back to the door and tries opening it again. Kate and I just stand there not knowing what to do.

"Should we wait for Ellie?" I suggest but she waves me off. She clears her throat and goes back to the scanner and tries scanning again but it wasn't working. "Am I cut?" She nervously laughs making me chuckle.

Once it scanned, she walks back to the door and tries opening it but it was still locked. "Does this always happen?" Kate ask making the people laugh and Syd laugh but she stops and glares at Kate.

Syd then goes back again and takes her keys out of her purse and scans then Kate tries to open the door but fails. "Girl. You sure you got the right one?" I ask her.

She groans and I see Ellie making her way to us. "Syd can't open the door" I tell my older sister and she just laughs. "Did they cut you?" Syd rolls her eyes and tries again and the door finally opens.

Kate leaves the door open for us and we walk in. "Look around and get familiar babe. This could be your future home" I whisper to Kate and she just gently pushes me away.

"Hey. Hands off my sister" Eloise says making me turn around and glare at her. I started walking backwards so that I can flip her off the whole way there.

"Careful" I get pulled back a little by Kate since I slammed my body into a wall. "Grow up and tell your boyfriend to get his nose out of his ass so that he can come watch one of your games" I tell her and flip her off once more before turning around and walking normally.

We enter the arena and we sit down by the benches. Front row baby. "There's still time. Wanna shoot around?" I ask Kate. She nods her head and we get up and grabs some balls and start shooting around.

The girls then came out and we stopped and I threw a ball to Alysha. We were about to head out but Eloise and Sydney stopped us. "You're a great player you know that right?" Ellie says to Kate and she blushes.

"You know, the harder you work, the more opportunities you'll get. Remember that" Sydney says then bobs Kate's head and walks away.

"Little advice for you that our dad use to tell us. You have to play your cards that you dealt with no matter how bad the cards are" I smile and look at the two interact.

"What if you don't have any cards?" Kate ask. "Then you bluff. This is only the start of your story Kate and we want to see your chapters" Ellie says pointing to me and herself.

"I'll see you two later" she gives us both side hugs then walks off to start the drills with her team and we go and sit back down. There's now more people and the other team is now on the court too.

"You know, sometimes what you're looking for is right in front of your face" I mention to the team who's warming up. Kate takes a deep breath and leans back in her chair and observes.

"That was cringy what you told me" Kate chuckles clearly thinking of what I just told her. "I know. Guess what movies it's from" she hums and pulls out her phone, goes on her note app and clicks on the 'movie' folder.
