Prologue

Lily 

2 months ago...

"Ugh, I can't study this anymore... " I said to my best friend Chloe. We've been at my house for the past three hours, because I tried to somehow study for my finals. "You've got this Lily. You are the smartest person I know. Besides you've been studying for way too long." She said scrolling through her TikTok fyp. 

"Easy for you to say...Chloe what if I won't be accepted? What will I do then?" I really want to get into this F1 program. I just saw how Chloe looked at me and said: "Lily...listen. You will rock your finals tomorrow, you know everything. You will be accepted into that program of yours, I know it. Now study some more and I'll go make us some dinner. Oh yeah and I'm staying over..." She said and went into the kitchen.

I am really grateful for Chloe. I don't know what would I do without her. We've been best friends ever since we were born. At the age of 19 we both decided to live together in London, we still do. We don't go to parties as much as we would want to. Why? Because we have to study A LOT. Chloe is a law student and I'm studying for a job in F1, more specifically to be a personal assistant. 

I became a formula 1 fan when I was a kid. I was always watching the races with my dad, sometimes even mom would join with my brother. Of course I was the only one who actually knew something about the drivers and the race in general. That's when I realised that f1 is the right place for me. 

I was just finished with studying when Chloe called me into the dining room for dinner. She was setting the table when I entered the kitchen. "Chloe, it smells amazing in here... " I said when I saw pasta and wine on the table. "Let's eat before it gets cold" said Chloe with a small smile. 

While we were eating we talked about how lucky Chloe was, because she's already done with finals. For her, summer brake already started, mine doesn't for 2 more weeks..."So...boys? any lovers?" I almost choked on my food when Chloe said that. "What? No..." I said and Chloe seemed disappointed. "Oh come on Lily. It's time for you to finally get a boyfriend." 

I became nervous when she said "boyfriend". I've been single for my whole life and turned out just fine. Yes there were some crushes but nothing more. "Why would I need a boyfriend? I'm fine on my own" I said to Chloe. "Lily you know well enough that you can't be alone for the rest of your life." I just sighed...she was right. But I don't need a boyfriend...well at least not yet.

I understood that she was worried about me, but I am okay on my own. Besides after all I don't know if I should believe in love. Is it worth it? Well I don't know but the only thing I'm focusing on right now is my f1 program...nothing else.

"Lily, I'm serious. I found Martin and yes we aren't a couple yet but it probably won't be long until we are." Oh, yes...Martin. The guy she's seeing. He's a great guy but if he and Chloe get together, then I'll be the only single person in the circle. I don't have many friends apart from Chloe and two of my classmates. I grew up a loner and I'm trying to make up for the lost time. Well...somehow.

"I know Chloe...I'm just not ready yet. I never had a boyfriend and you know that. I just need time and I have to focus on the f1 program." I said out of defeat. I knew she was right, but on the other hand I also knew, that finding a boyfriend is like being in a maze. Lots of paths and choices but god knows which one is the right one.

After our dinner I went straight to sleep. The next day after school me and Chloe went to a party, to celebrate my good results on finals. Chloe was encouraging me to find myself a boyfriend, since there was a lot of people and she was with Martin. I couldn't...I tried but got too shy and left the men around me. I was sitting outside by the pool and decided to just get drunk. I was on my own since Chloe was with Martin, who was apparently a DJ at this party.
