Lily
I woke up to the soft vibration of my phone on the nightstand, groaning softly as I reached for it. The screen blinked, showing Savannah's name.
I blinked at the time—7 a.m.—far too early for anything. But I smiled as I answered, Savannah was one of the few people I didn't mind hearing from at this hour.
"Hey, Sav, everything okay?" I asked, my voice soft, trying not to wake Lando.
"Hi, Lily, sorry to bother you so early! Our babysitter canceled last minute, and Oliver and I have an event today. Could you and Lando watch Mila for the day? I know it's short notice, but we really don't have anyone else."
I couldn't help but smile at the thought of spending the day with Mila, Lan's adorable niece. "Of course, we'd love to have her! Bring her over whenever."
Savannah sighed with relief. "You're a lifesaver. We'll be there in thirty minutes."
"See you soon!" I hung up and turned toward Lando, who was sprawled out across the bed, snoring softly, his hair all over the place.
He was peaceful, blissfully unaware that his morning was about to start a lot earlier than he'd like.
I slid closer to him, gently brushing his hair out of his face and whispered, "Lan, wake up."
He groaned, burrowing deeper into the pillow. "Noooooo," he mumbled, still half-asleep.
I smiled, giving him a little shake. "Sav and Oli are bringing Mila over. We're babysitting today."
Another groan, more muffled than the last, as he pulled the blanket over his head. "Tell her to wake me when she's eighteen," he muttered, his voice barely audible.
I laughed softly, shaking my head. "Fine, but don't be mad when she wakes you up herself."
Leaving him to sleep a little longer, I slipped out of bed and headed downstairs to tidy up before Mila arrived. I barely had time to make coffee and straighten the living room before I heard a knock at the door.
I opened it to see Savannah and Oliver, with Oliver holding Mila, who was already wide awake and clutching her stuffed bunny. She looked up at me with those big, bright eyes and broke into a toothy smile.
"Hi, sweetheart!" I cooed, reaching for her.
"Thank you so much, Lily," Savannah said, stepping inside as she handed me a small bag filled with Mila's essentials. "We'll be back by the evening, I promise."
"No rush, we've got this," I assured them, bouncing Mila gently in my arms. She let out a soft giggle, snuggling closer to me.
Oliver gave a quick nod. "Thanks Lils, really appreciate it." He gave me a smile and waved goodbye as they rushed off.
Mila was all cuddles in the beginning, her little head resting against my shoulder as I walked around the house. I had almost forgotten how much I loved this—having a little one to care for. It felt so natural.
"Okay, Mila," I whispered. "Let's go wake up Uncle Lando."
Mila giggled in response, already squirming in my arms, eager to see what was next. As I carried her upstairs, Lando was still dead to the world, sprawled out under the duvet.
I set Mila down beside him on the bed and watched as she crawled closer, her tiny hands reaching out to touch his face.
She poked his cheek once, then twice, babbling softly in her adorable baby language. Lando stirred but didn't wake. That didn't stop Mila—she poked him again, this time pulling at his hair.
