I planned for this mission to be clean and simple. Those standards were now thrown out the window.
The empty hallways allowed me to easily track down the creep who cornered Rory. He had his back to me and casually strode along.
"Oy, shit head."
When he faced me, a beaming smile crawled on his face. He splayed his arms out, as if we had been best pals since we wore diapers, "There's the knight in shining armor!"
"What the hell is your deal with Aurora?"
"There's some kind of misunderstanding. I'm just trying to prevent her from making a mistake. And you know our girl, she's so fucking stubborn."
My brows shot up, "Our girl?"
His hands slid in pockets, "Yeah, man. I'm fine sharing."
"You're disgusting," I felt the crab cakes from dinner threatened to come up.
"What's wrong with that? I'm grateful to have her and I also want others to enjoy the experience."
"You will stay away from her," my hands went to my artifact keychain.
"You can't tell me what to do. She's already mine. She can't get away from me."
I grasped my sword in my hand and pointed it at his Adam's apple. There would be no witnesses and he would forget about this later. I wanted to make the most of it. And he was really pissing me off.
He raised his hands in surrender. "Woah! Woah! Easy there, man! How'd you even get that past security?"
"Is this enough incentive for you?"
"How valiant," a perverse grin crawled on his face. "But Aurora was meant to be mine. The little demon bitch just won't admit it."
Looking into his brown eyes, I felt like my mind had left my body. All of my surroundings seemed to blur. The thumping music from the reception began to fade out.
Cold metal sliced against my torso. That was enough to bring me to the present.
With a knife in hand, he drew his arm back. I grabbed him by the wrist, kicked him on the knee caps and flipped him over. He groaned when his back hit the floor. I grabbed him by his shirt and threw him to the side. The door to a closet came loose from its hinges.
My fist traveled from underneath and collided with his diaphragm. I twisted his arms behind and pushed him against the wall. I removed the belt from his pants and used it to tie his wrists behind his back.
With him restrained, I brought him to his knees and had him face me. I lit my match, "Look this way, you fucker."
He tightly shut his eyes.
"Bianerus....look this way. Now."
He fought against it, but he gave up. With his gaze on the flame, I blew on it. As he blinked away the smoke, I gave him one last command, "Sleep."
His eyelids shut and his head dropped. With my gloved hands, I removed the gold ring from his finger and placed it in a box. Thanks to the insight from Rory's friend, as long as the ring didn't make contact with the skin, we would be unaffected.
I covered his head with a bucket and left him there. I pressed my back to the wall and tried to catch my breath. I clutched onto my left side at the aching sensation. I looked to see the bottom portion of my shirt had been stained crimson.
"Kamurai!" Ana ran towards me. She winced when she saw the damage done. "Dude, you need a doctor."
"I'm fine. I need to see Rory. Where is she?"
