Knock, knock, knock. "Jin." Knock, knock, knock. "Jin." Knock, knock, knock. "Jin."
After a moment of silence, I heard him say, "Come in."
I entered, both of my hands carrying plastic bags full of food.
He lay on the couch. Keeping his gaze fixed to the pages of his book, he said. "You're late."
"You try finishing a run, taking a shower, picking up food, and meeting at the rendezvous point in five minutes. I texted you about it too."
After his message, I went back to Hotarubi and got myself cleaned up. No way was I visiting someone smelling like sweat. I got myself dressed in my school uniform and headed back out to the main campus. The lunch rush at Highway to Home had just ended when I got there, so I got my food pretty quickly.
Thirty minutes later, I arrived at Frostheim's doorstep. I felt like my stomach was about to eat itself from the inside out at this point.
Jin turned to look at me. His brows rose in surprise when he looked at my hands, "You weren't joking."
"I don't mess around when it comes to food. I texted Tohma if he wanted some as well, but he didn't respond. I still got him something though."
I began to unpack our portion of containers on the coffee table, welcoming the warm air of spices into his room. Chicken over rice. Fried vegetable dumplings. Strawberry sandos. Bottled green teas. Naomi also gave me some extra French fries.
"How much was it?" he asked, sitting up.
"Don't worry about it. My treat."
"Rory, seriously. How much?"
"Jinny, seriously. Just. Eat."
"Menace."
"Sourpuss."
"Loudmouth."
"Boubourse."
"Smartass."
"Stronzo."
"Alright, alright, I'll eat," He took out the plastic utensils from their package. "Happy?"
"I didn't get to Korean yet."
Before I could argue in another language, he picked up one of the dumplings and stuffed it in my mouth, "Eat."
"Ah!" I hovered my hand in front of my mouth, ...ih hoh!"
Aside from it potentially burning off my tastebuds, it was delicious. Jin and I proceeded to enjoy our meal, with barely any words exchanged between us. He seemed to be more relaxed as well once he got some food in his stomach.
"So, about the Like Dove-"
"How did your health check go?" he kept his eyes glued to his meal.
I didn't know what to be more surprised by. His sudden change in topic or that he remembered that.
I answered, "Professor Nicolas said everything looks good and I can resume going on missions."
He remained silent for a few moments before chiming in again, "There's another case that I'm looking into. Want in?"
I shook my head and swallowed my last bit of chicken and rice, "I can't. I'm going to be with my family this weekend."
"Just arrange your schedule around me."
My brows furrowed in confusion at his request. "I'm leaving Friday morning and coming back Sunday night. How can I schedule that around you?"
"Missions take precedent."
