Me: You'll need to rethink your proposal location for Dahlia.

Marcus: What's going on?

Me: A large area around Tokyo Bay has been closed off.

Marcus: Are you kidding me?

Marcus: When did this happen?

Me: I came to the area to check it out one more time to make sure everything was good to go.  All I saw were large scale vehicles and red 'KEEP OUT' tape.

Marcus: YOU SHOULD'VE TOLD ME SOONER!

Me: I'M TELLING YOU NOW! NO NEED TO SHOUT!😠😠😠

Me: I talked to one of the crew members there. They said a lot of animals have washed up on the shore. They're doing all kinds of rescue and clean up efforts.

Me: Long story short, there's a lot of work to do and they're expecting back-up. They'll need time.

Marcus: And they can't have it done by this afternoon?

Me: You wanna give them a hand? I can send you a volunteer application.

Marcus: Ugggghhh

Me: Either way, you need a new proposal location. ASAP.

Marcus: But where the hell could I find something in such short notice?

Me: I got you covered. Don't worry.

Marcus: Are you serious?!

Me: Of course I am.

Marcus: Aurora, you are a literal angel! I owe you one. BIG TIME.

Marcus: What can I get you as a thank you?

Me: Remember those flowers you got Dahlia for your one-year anniversary?

Marcus: You mean the ones that took me four months to get ahold of and used up half my paycheck?

Me: Is that a problem?

Marcus: Nonononono! Not at all!

Marcus: I'll send an e-mail to the florist right now before I pick up Dahlia.

Marcus: Thank you again.

Me: Sure thing. I really want to see my sister happy. ☺️

"Operation: Expose Marcus as a Cheater" was a go.

I cashed in a favor from a friend from France to reserve a famous barbecue restaurant for the afternoon. Jin and I sat in a corner booth. All of my siblings and their families occupied the remainder of the dining room. The stage for the perfect disaster was set. All we had to do was wait.

I checked my phone to see if my parents had replied. I sent them an invitation to lunch with all of us. The message was still marked as 'delivered' on both their ends. They were probably busy. My dad mentioned he had a last-minute suit fitting session with a client. My mom mentioned she had to give one of her colleagues a ride to the airport this afternoon.

I felt like this was their way of punishing me just because I had a different perspective on things.

I didn't choose to be like this, but I made the best of it. Even though they will never know about ghouls, anomalies, or any of it, I felt less like their daughter.
