I kicked open the door to the infirmary.

"Well, someone's sprightly this evening," Yuri's arrogant expression faded when he noticed Rory's condition.

Professor Nicolas rushed over to us. "What happened?"

I laid her down on the nearest infirmary bed, "She fainted after the mission."

"Aurora Castillo went on a mission with your nest of tasteless, revolting, parasites?!" Yuri glared at me, eyes blazing with fury.

I bit my tongue on the remark that nearly escaped me. There were bigger fish that needed to be fried. And Yuri Isami was about to get himself iced if he uttered another word.

Professor Nicolas calmly asked me, "Do you know if she has any current medical conditions?"

"I don't."

"She has iron deficiency anemia," Yuri corrected.

So that's why she worried about being a hindrance.

While Professor Nicolas examined her, I gave a summary of what I had observed from Rory after the mission. Her hands trembling. Her face looking pale. Her heart beating rapidly.

The Professor came to a diagnosis, "This is anemic shock. Since she's a ghoul, this can progress much faster. Isami, I know you came here to pick up some equipment, but could you-"

"Hm. I don't mind staying for a bit," the Captain of Mortkranken put an oxygen mask on her before looking through the medicine cabinet.

I observed as they injected various medicines through Rory's IV line. Several electrodes were placed on her chest and something wrapped around her pinky finger. About ten minutes later, her vitals were back to normal. Barely.

Professor Nicolas said we were lucky her symptoms were mild. She would be kept overnight in the infirmary for observation and additional care. With some rest and medicine, she should be back up on her feet in the morning.

If these were mild, I didn't want to imagine what severe would look like.

With Rory's numbers becoming steady, Isami took his leave, saying he had important experiments to work on. A few minutes after, Professor Nicolas left the infirmary as well, saying he would notify the Captain or Vice-Captain of Hotarubi about Rory's situation.

I was about to send a message to my Vice-Captain, but he beat me to it.

Tohma: Fuji, Errant, and myself are back at Frostheim.

Tohma: Is Rory okay?

I took another look at her, peacefully sleeping. Some of the color had returned to her face. The steady beeping of her heart monitor filled the empty infirmary.

Me: She'll live.

The grip on her sheets tightened. Her breathing quickened. She turned her body to the side and tried to bury her face in the pillow. She whimpered, "No..."

Without giving a second thought, I moved towards her. I crouched beside her and covered my hand over hers. Her skin still felt cold to the touch. "Bianerus....relax."

Her strained facial expression eased. Her breaths became deeper and more steady. The beeping slowed down and evened out.

My hand did not move away from Rory's. Being so close to her, I noticed a small scar along her cheek. There was another underneath her jaw. Another was on the side of her wrist. They were as wide as her fingernails and were barely visible. Though it didn't prevent me from wondering how many more were hidden underneath her uniform. If these scars have anything to do with her becoming a ghoul?
