It was the day of her anniversary. The day that marked the one year of my bestfriends passing. And i felt like shit. Like complete and utter shit. I kept my airpods in for the duration of my first three classes and left halfway through most of them to go to the bathroom to sit with my thoughts for 5 minutes. But finally, lunch rolled around and i was relieved to go and sit on my own for 45 minutes but as i turned the corner to the corridor to my dorms, i saw a familiar someone stood opposite my door, scrolling on her phone.
"What're you doing here?" I called out, my voice as dull as i felt. She looked up as i got closer, tucking her phone into her pocket.
"I came to get you for lunch." Violet shrugged, pushing herself off of the wall she was leaning on.
I narrowed my eyes slightly.
"You shouldn't be alone. Not today. So, come on." She said, starting to back away slowly.
"You don't have to do this, i'll be fine." I shook my head, still walking towards my dorm and not after her.
"Clem please, come on." She pleaded, still backing away slowly.
"Okay, fine, but i'll follow you down. I just need to go to the bathroom." I mumbled, inching towards my dorm door while keeping my eyes on her.
She looked at me unconvinced while i sighed. "I swear, i will follow you down."
"If you don't i'll come back up and drag you down myself." She called out, turning on her heels while i smiled slightly.
It felt weird to smile. On this specific day. On the day of her anniversary. It felt really weird. I felt emotionless throughout the day so smiling, it felt odd. I didn't cry either which i was surprised about. I thought i'd be a mess but i wasn't, i was just, emotionless. Anyway, a couple of minutes passed and i was walking through the doors to the cafeteria, spotting the group straight away. They were sat at the table they normally sat at, the one at the far right corner. Brody, Marlon and Violet smiled slightly as they saw me coming, confusing Sophie and Louis since they had their backs turned to me.
"Hey guys." I said, taking the empty seat beside Sophie and opposite Violet.
"Hey Clem." Sophie smiled.
"Hey." Brody smiled.
"Where have you been?" Louis asked.
"Probably avoiding you since you ask so many questions." Marlon chuckled.
"What? Im just curious." Louis mumbled, his face reddening.
"You're always curious Lou." Brody chuckled slightly.
"What can i say? Im just a curious person." Louis shrugged, playing it off.
"So, what have you been up to anyway?" Sophie asked, turning her head to look at me while smiling.
"Nothing." I shrugged.
"I saw you in class earlier, you didn't look very interested." Marlon chuckled slightly, not knowing why. He figured it was just because it was school.
"No," I forced a smile. "It's school so."
"I hear you." Louis mumbled, rolling his eyes slightly over the face we were in school as i glanced at Violet who already had her eyes on me. She looked slightly concerned and i could do almost nothing to reassure her that i was okay, even if i wasn't.
"So what's the plan for after school?" Marlon asked. "I don't know about yous but im running low on snacks. I reckon we take the bus into town."
"Marlon we were literally in town a few days ago." Sophie sighed.
