"I hope you recover quickly Toph," I commented. The atmosphere was tense.
"Yeah, I hope so too," she replied, her burnt feet dangling in the water of the fountain.
I had been a part of team avatar for most of their adventures. They first found me when Aang was trying to find a Firebending master. I took them to Jeong-jeong and happened to be a victim of Aang's first attempt at Firebending.
I was a scared kid, but I connected with Sokka almost instantly, because I related to him.
I was also a non-bender without any parental figure. I also valued myself less then benders because I wasn't as talented and I couldn't fly around, or make other things fly around.
Technically, I was a Firebender, but I made the decision never to bend as soon as I discovered my curse.
There was no way I was going to hurt the people around me with my bending, so I practiced staying calm in every possible situation. I practiced not blowing up, and always being patient. It was hard, but I have managed to get through my 12 years of life without Firebending with the exception of when I first discovered it.
We had agreed that we would have to find Zuko and take him captive to ensure our own safety after he burned Toph's feet, so I was bracing myself for the inevitable.
All of a sudden, I felt a shift in the air. I felt uncomfortable. Something was clearly wrong. I put my guard up and scanned the area quickly. I thought maybe Zuko had come back.
Clearly, I was alone in this feeling. Everyone was going about their duties.
I felt I had to alert someone about this, so I walked up to Aang to let him know, but was abruptly cut off.Boom.
I froze for a split second. That assassin guy was back.
I snapped out of my daze and ran over to Haru, Tao and The Duke, proceeding to usher them to behind a pillar, safely out of Combustion man's line of sight.
"Stop!" I heard a voice that sounded suspiciously like Zuko yell.
"I don't want you hunting the Avatar anymore."Oh. It was Zuko.
"The mission is off. I'm ordering you to stop!" he attempted, only to be shoved aside as another explosion sounded.
"If you keep attacking, I won't pay you!"
I tried to spot where Aang and the others were so that I could determine wether or not they were okay.
"Alright. I'll pay you double to stop!" Zuko continued, desperately trying to sway the assassin.
I couldn't see what had happened, but I managed to infer from the faces of the team and the fact that Zuko's pleading had ended when an explosion sounded, that Zuko had been blown off of the ledge he had stood on.
I watched, my anxiety rising, as Aang deflected a multitude of explosions, trying to find an opening in which he could strike.
To my dismay, he failed. It was then that Katara decided to have a go.
She bent the water from the fountain into small, sharp shards of ice and sent them flying at Combustion man.
They all bounced off of him, but it gave the gaang enough time to duck behind some pillars without being seen.
I came to the conclusion that I should have a try at buying us time. After all, if I didn't, we would all die a fiery, painful death.
I took a second to mentally hype myself up.
I ran out and straight into Combustion man's line of sight. I heard Haru, Tao and The Duke call for me, but I ignored them, narrowly dodging being shot full of fire.
