It was a wonderful day. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping and a cool breeze fluttered by. It was peaceful.
I take that last sentence back.
A fireball came hurtling past my face.
"Sorry! Missed that one!" I heard Katara call out to me. Was it wierd that I got a sense of Deja vu from that?
Let's back up for a second.
So, we where on our way to the spot that Sokka had picked for the invasion speech -I don't remember it's name and frankly couldn't care less- when we were ambushed.
Turns out, the Fire nation had a multitude of wanted posters up for us. That happened to attract some rather unpleasant attention.
Bounty hunters.
That brings us to the unfortunate present.
I was stood on Appa, Aang expertly manouvering him through the sky, bending at the chains and flaming rocks being thrown at us. Katara stood on the opposite side of Appa, bending water left and right. Our cover was very much blown. Toph was hanging on for dear life, gripping Appa's fur as if it was her entire lifeline.
I bent a rock to the side before whirling to face the next.
This went on for a hot minute, or "as they say in the Fire nation", a 'flamin minute, before we managed to shake them. I will never understand Aang.
Once we were sure we had lost them, me and Katara sat back down. Well, Katara sat back down, I fell back onto Appa's saddle, panting.
I was exhausted as that was probably one of the first times I had tried bending at such an altitude.
"You alright there kid?" Sokka questioned, taking in my apparent exhaustion.
I hated him calling me that. Sure, he was 16 and I was 13 but he still had no right to be talking to me like that. He was still a kid too. I was too tired to come up with a snarky remark so I just groaned in response.
"I think Y/n is just adjusting to fighting so high up. They're an earthbender remember. They usually fight on solid ground." Aang informed.
"Yeah, they'll be fine as long as twinkle-toes here doesn't crash Appa." Toph commented, bashing Aang's flying skills.
"Cut him some slack Toph. I mean, you try flying a ten-ton bison when flaming rocks and chains are soaring towards you from all angles." Katara defended.
"I genuinely wouldn't last a second." Toph was clearly referancing her blindness. Katara didn't seem to get the message.
"Exactly- oh." Katara cleared her throat in embarrassment, "Moving on..."
I snickered lightly. I still didn't have the energy to speak.
"There's a forest coming up, we can camp out there for a while but we'll have to keep moving to make sure we aren't found." Sokka declared.
I hummed, nodding. That's a good idea. I think.
We had managed to carry most of our stuff through the woods and found a nice clearing with, conveniently, a waterfall connecting to a lake nearby. It was rather nice for Fire nation territory.
Appa planted himself next to a set of rocks comfortably with Momo on top of said rocks.
It turned dark outside startlingly fast, making us rush through setting up camp, also skipping over scouting out the area. Big mistake.
I smoothed out my sleeping bag, glancing at the sky for a second. The stars had began to sparkle.
Katara poured soup into small bowls for each of us, handing spoons over with them.
I scooped my soup up and stared at it for a second. Something about this area was weird, but I couldn't put a finger on what.
"Are you gonna eat that?" Sokka questioned from my left with an already empty bowl.
"Oh. Yeah, I just got a weird feeling for a second," I spoke with a cautious tone, as if one wrong word would make the whole world collapse.
Sokka frowned. That was unlike me. I was usually snappy and over-protective of my stuff.
I finished my food significantly later than the rest of the team, which was slightly concerning as I was hungry almost all of the time.
Aang pulled me aside afterwards to talk for a second.
I didn't particularly want to talk for the fear I might go all sappy on him, but pushed that aside.
This was Aang, after all.
We stepped away from the others and next to the lake. I shivered slightly. I couldn't swim and had almost drowned once because of it. It still haunted me to this day.
Aang sat down on a rock and gestured for me to sit down too. I sat on a rock infront of him.
"What's going on Y/n? You've been acting weird since the bounty hunters," he asked, his face displaying a mixture of gentle concern and confusion.
"I... something just feels off. It's nothing to worry about though," I responded, tiptoeing over my words.
He had so much to think about already and I didn't want to weigh him down with this silly little 'gut feeling' I was getting.
Again, rather unlike me. Usually, I spoke my mind and he was forced to listen. I had no clue what was going on with me recently.
"Are you sure that's all? You know you can talk to me ab-"
A loud roar cut him off.
What. In. The. Earth. Kindom. Was. That.
My head snapped towards the direction the roar had come from.
Oh fu-
