The Scouts walk through the mountains of Shiganshina before Jean drops his lamp and struggles to control his horse
Levi: Hey! You’ve gotta light up the ground!
Jean: Sorry.
Levi: We’re not at the foot yet? It’s almost dawn.
Dirk: Once we’re over this mountain Shiganshina right there.
Y/N: I'll lead the way. I know these mountains better than anyone.
Levi: Fine, lead the way.
Y/N leads the Scouts through the mountain as Eren and Mikasa talk
Eren: Sorry you’re stuck with my horse.
Mikasa: You’re supposed to be saving your energy.
Eren: Yeah, I know.
Connie: She’s right, Eren, rest up.
Jean: Don’t say his name idiot.
Connie: It’s right, sorry.
Jean: Assume this place is swarming with enemies
Jean looks to his left and sees a Titan rest on a tree
Jean: Titan on the left! Everyone halt! Light up the area!
Hange: It’s alright, he’s asleep. This lad must not be one of the new ones that can move at night. That’s too bad. Let him be.
The Scouts continue on
Eren: I can’t believe we didn’t see it until we got that close.
Hange: Yeah, I’m with you there. This moonless night is protecting us. Light from the moon is reflected from the sun. The new type of Titans. We think they use that minuscule amount of reflected light to move around. Using the new moon was the right move. There’s no guarantee we won’t have a repeat of before. The lad might be one of those “Moonless Titans” for all we know. Hope we capture one someday.
Eren continues to walk and notices his arm shaking
Eren: “I’m shaking? Why? What am I scared of? Shit. If I screw up retaking Wall Maria because I’m like this, what then?! How many people will lose hope forever. There won’t be a chance like this ever again! Am I not cut out for this? Someone like me? How can I save humanity? Someone like me? How?”
Eren grabs his arm as Mikasa and Armin notice
Mikasa: Eren?
Armin: What are you shaking for? Are you scared?
Eren: Huh?! I’m not scared!
Armin: Huh? You’re kidding? Look at your hand.
Eren: This is… It’s cold! My hand’s damn
freezing!
Armin: Really? My whole body’s been shaking this whole time. See?
Armin holds his arm up as Eren sees
Armin: Eren, have you ever been afraid of Titans? Normally, everyone’s terrified of them. Like me… The first time I faced a Titan I couldn’t move a muscle. But…There I was… And you pulled me right out of the Titans month. How were you able to do something like that?
Eren: I remembered…The time you showed me that book. Up until then, I never once thought about what was outside the walls. I just spent everyday staring at the clouds and the sky. But then, I heard your story and looked into your eyes. You were seeing an awesome dream. But I had nothing. That’s when I knew. I wasn’t free. Trapped in a small cage in a huge world, my freedom stolen by unthinkable fiends. When I realized that, I couldn’t forgive them. I don’t know why, but when it comes to taking back freedom… Yes, my strength flows through me. Thanks for that. I’m good now.
