A match was cancelled. Hermione Granger was petrified. Something was wrong.  I still couldn't process it. Was I the one who was doing all of this? Maybe without my knowledge? What was happening? After all, I was the only Gaunt in this school. Salazar's blood flew through my veins. It must have been me.

I spent days researching the Chamber of Secrets. There has to be a loophole. I had three things to find out: (1) Where was the Chamber of Secrets? (2) Who opened it? (3) What is the monster that lies within?

If there is someone who can stop it, it's me. I am the only one who can control the beast. Moreover, I had picked up some clues over the last few days. Spiders were acting weird. Whenever an attack happened, the victim almost always looked at it through something - ghost, mirror, water.

I did find the answer to the first question. I went to visit Myrtle one day to talk about how sorrowful life is when she described how she died to me. It was certain. She was the muggle-born who died 50 years before.

The answer to the second question was quite difficult. It was not me as I realised that half of the times that attacks happened, I wasn't even in the area. It's not Potter, Draco, or any of the other Slytherins.

To find the answer to the third question, I spent my breaks at the library, researching beasts that can live for long without food. But, that's when it clicked, it has to be something related to a snake. So, with a note from Professor Snape, I entered the restricted section and went through the books about snakes.

"Of the many fearsome beasts and monsters that roam our land, there is none more curious or more deadly than the Basilisk, known also as the King of Serpents. This snake, which may reach gigantic size, and live many hundreds of years, is born from a chicken's egg, hatched beneath a toad. Its methods of killing are most wondrous, for aside from its deadly and venomous fangs, the Basilisk has a murderous stare, and all who are fixed with the beam of its eye shall suffer instant death. Spiders flee before the Basilisk, for it is their mortal enemy, and the Basilisk flees only from the crowing of the rooster, which is fatal to it."

Basilisk. That was it.

That's all I need to know. I walked to the girl's bathroom and searched it thoroughly. It has to be here. There I found a snake engraved on one of the pipes in the sink.

Potter and Ron entered with Lockhart trailing behind them.

"What are you doing here? This is the girl's lavatory."

"Leave, right now," said Potter.

"Excuse me? I am here on an important mission."

"Well so are we!" yelled Ron.
