It was nearing hour fifteen and Gen was slowly coming down from the food and drinks she had consumed. Between the two of them, Tristan and Gen had chowed down four hot dogs, two of Mrs. Kim's eggless egg sandwiches, a bag of chips, some watermelon, and seven cups of coffee. Four cups had gone to Gen, Tristan only drank three.
Bailey had shown up in an adorable poodle skirt with her matching pink crutches and took a seat on the bleachers waving and cheering the couple on.
"How many more hours of this?" Tristan grumbled as Gen rested her head on his shoulder, the pair slowly dancing to a soft jazz melody.
"How about once we reach hour twenty then we can call it quits? My feet are killing me, we could go to the 'Black and White Theater' I am sure no one would be there." Gen suggested.
Tristan wrapped his arms around the girl, pulling her closer. "That sounds great, let's do it."
Smirking, Gen pulled back, a gust of energy finally getting to her. "Excellent, and then I can give you a reward for putting up with me and my silly town." She whispered in his ear.
An air horn went off at that exact moment, so Gen didn't notice the way Tristan gulped or his body had stiffened. Grabbing the boy's hand, she started running at a slow jog as music and shouting came in the background.
Looking wildly at the crowd that was forming, Tristan shot a confused look at the girl. "What are we doing Genny?" He asked as everyone started frantically running around the gym.
Tugging on his arm, the curly-haired girl urged
the blonde to run faster. "The run around! You need to run or Taylor will disqualify us.""Ladies and Gentlemen on your marks, get set, GO" Taylor boomed from his place at the podium.
Everyone started running faster than ever. Gen was lucky that she was in perfect shape with all her cross country training. She also thanked the heavens that Tristan ran five miles every day and lifted weights at his military school. Soon the pair were in front and had caught up to Sookie and Jackson who appeared to be in a fight. Lorelei and Rory were following close by as well.
"Hey mom and Ror! Having fun?" Gen asked with a grin on her face. Rory shook her head and looked like she was going to throw up.
"Remember, the last five couples who finish behind the red line once the song stops are automatically out! So run, run, run" Taylor shouted egging everyone on.
Gen started to feel the effects of her many food combinations throughout the day and put a hand to her side to stop the stitch that was forming. Tristan grasped her other hand tightly and the pair started weaving in and out of others who were either running or collapsing on the ground.
"We need to get in front of Kirk and his date!" Gen shouted over the music that was blaring from the bands instruments.
Kirk started pushing people out of the way and Gen could overhear Lorelei and Rory yelling at him. Thankfully the music stopped just then and everyone who was behind the red line immediately fell to the floor.
Tristan put his arm on Gen and gave it a little pinch. "You owe me big time." He said out of breath.
Bailey came into view just then sporting a big grin and holding two cups of water. "Hey you two, thought you guys could use some nice water. I do not miss doing that." The blonde spoke a smile in her voice.
Thanking her best friend and slowly sitting up Gen turned to Tristan. "Do you want to get out of here?" She asked and the blonde nodded. "We're going to catch a movie; do you want to join us?" Gen asked Bailey who smiled and shook her head. "I think I am going to head home, besides Thomas is picking me up and we're going to hang until Mom and Dad get back from their business event."
