It was another Friday night at the Gilmores house and Gen was counting the minutes until she could leave. Usually, the girl loved Friday night dinners, but tonight she had a date. A phone date to be exact.
Ever since Tristan and her had kissed the night of the dance marathon they both agreed to try and date again. By the term 'date', that included not seeing anyone else and they talked on the phone every night. Sure, it was hard, but Gen believed her, and Tristan could work it out. Besides, they only had a couple more months and then the boy was coming back to her.
Emily was being quite difficult that particular Friday night. She had already sent the made back three times because she forgot to add dressing to the salad, added walnuts to the salad, and then added raisins. Both her and Rory were getting hungry, and Lorelai was hangry.
"Grandma, I love raisins, I would have loved to eat walnuts and raisins in my salad. I head that fruit salads are particular in season this year." Gen added in an attempt to calm her grandmother down.
Emily smiled at her granddaughter. "That is nice of you Genny, but I paid the maid to do her job which was not add walnuts or raisins in the salad."
Gen took a sip of her water. It was going to be a long night.
"You know mom, in Europe they eat the salad last." Lorelai butt in.
Emily glared at her daughter. "We are not in Europe are we Lorelai?" She asked patronizingly.
Shrinking in her seat, the twins' mother shook her head.
"Mom forgot to eat lunch today." Rory added from where she was sitting next to Gen.
Looking around the table at her starving family, Emily pushed back her chair. "Apparently, we're going to be European tonight." She huffed and strutted to the kitchen.
"Oh wonderful; I was getting so tired of being American day after day." Their grandfather looked down from the paper he was reading.
Lorelai put a hand on her stomach. "I'm starved."
"Think about something else." Rory offered.
"Like what?"
"Something disgusting?" Gen offered.
Lorelai perked up. "Ari Fleischer?"
That got Richards attention. "Ari Fleischer is our nations mouthpiece, young lady." He scolded his daughter.
Emily came out of the kitchen at that moment looking worn out. "Lilliana will be out in a moment with the sand dabs." She informed everyone.
Sitting back down and taking a sip of wine, she turned towards her husband. "I am afraid we'll have to let her go Richard."
Not looking from his newspaper this time, he responded to his wife. "If that's how you feel Emily."
Lorelai on the other hand looked appalled. Gen wasn't sure why. Their grandmother couldn't keep a maid for more than a week.
"You're firing someone over putting walnuts in the salad?" She asked incredulously.
Emily straightened up and shot back a comment. "I'm going to fire someone for putting walnuts in the salad after I asked her to not put walnuts in the salad at least three times."
Holding up her empty water glass, Gen stood up. "I'm going to go get some more water, does anyone need anything?" She asked.
Rory shook her head.
"I'd like a big bag of walnuts and make sure to tell her they're for me." Lorelai said sarcastically.
"I'm fine, thank you dear." Emily answered.
