Chicken or Beef?

Gen opened the door for her and Rory to enter their childhood home. Suddenly, a nasty beeping sound entered as soon as they stepped inside.

Covering her ears, the girl saw their mom bolt downstairs clearly having just awoke from her sleep.

"Oh crap!" She shouted over the noise.

Gen immediately dropped her purse and covered her ears. Their plan had been ruined by whatever the nasty noise was. The girl was arriving in town for Lindsey's wedding and bachelorette party. Rory had decided to come to and suggested they surprise Lorelai whom they hadn't seen since last Friday Night Dinner.

"Is it the smoke detector? Are we on fire?" Rory covered her ears as well.

"No, it's the alarm. Kirk installed it last week." Lorelai tried shutting off the supposed alarm, but the passkey wasn't working.

Gen seemed confused. "We don't have an alarm mother."

"Well, then we have really angry rats!" Their mother joked.

Lorelai must have finally woken up from her sleep state because she gasped at the sight of Rory and Gen's hair.

The two girls had wanted a change going into college. Gen's hair had been half-way down her back, and it was getting unbearable to manage. The girl cut it, so it was hanging nicely above her shoulders, and her curls had never looked fresh and healthy.

Rory wanted a trim, so Stephanie took it upon herself to cut the girls hair as well. She had been training at her aunt's salon back in New York and assured her that she had done this dozens of times.

The girl ended up getting more than a trim. The bob suited her and made her look more grown up. However, Gen knew the real reason her sister got a haircut. Jess.

Every time Gen tried to bring the boy up to Rory, the girl clammed and change the subject. She even tried to get Paris to harass her twin into talking with her life coach. However, the idea didn't work because Rory smelled the set up.

Gen hadn't heard from him either. He called once or twice from California saying that his dad had been a letdown, so the last she heard he was traveling across the United States looking for work.

She suggested he take online courses through a college and try to get a bachelor's degree. The girl knew that Jess wanted to own a publishing company one day and even write a book. If he managed to get an English degree, most editors would be more interested.

"Did you guys cut your hair?" Lorelai asked incredulously.

Gen smiled. "Yes, I decided it was time for a change."

"Well, I just trimmed mine." Rory but in.

Their mother sighed. "Why didn't you tell me you were cutting your hair? I feel like I'm seeing new versions of my daughters'."

"It was a spur-of-the-moment thing." Rory added.

"Mine wasn't. I wanted to go shorter. Who knows, maybe I'll get a belly button piercing and dye my eyebrow's." Rory said sarcastically.

"A spur-of-the-moment and let's not tell my mother I'm pulling a GI Jane?" Lorelai pouted as the alarm kept beeping.

Gen grumbled wanting to go and hide under her covers. "Are we seriously going to have this conversation now?"

Their mother nodded and pulled them into a corner on the other side of their living room. The beeping stopped and silence set into the Gilmore household.

"So, why didn't you tell me you're getting your hair cut?" Lorelai asked again clearly hurt.

"Ugh, are we really having this conversation again? That was so two minutes ago." Gen spoke.
