Wavecrest Apartments
Watching TV on the couch, Ava turned to Lena. It's now or never. I can't avoid it.
"Lena, can we talk?"
'Sure. What's up?"
"There's something I need to talk to you about. Something I've been putting off."
"Sounds serious," Lena frowned.
"I... I've been accepted to the Olympic swimming. It means I'll need to relocate cities for training... but.."
"I know." Lena smiled. "I saw the letter a few days ago... Sorry. You're worried about us?"
"Yes,' said Ava, hugging Lena.
"Don't worry about us. You won't be there all the time, and I can come visit?"
"But, it'll be for the next two years. At least!"
Lena kissed her passionately.
"We'll be fine.."
Two weeks later... Harbor City Airport
"This is it.... I'm off..." Ava said, tears slowly rolling down her cheeks. Maya and Elana were huddled behind Lena, crying, but not speaking.
Lena held Ava's face with both hands. She kissed her forehead, her eyes, her cheeks, then finally her lips. She kissed like it was going to be the last time they ever did.
"Go. You'll miss your flight otherwise. We'll talk as soon as you land. Go!" Tears welling in Lena's eyes.
Ava pulled herself out of Lena's embrace. The reluctance to leave obvious. As she walked to the security gates, she turned and blew a kiss. Mouthing the words, "I love you." Wiping the tears from her face.
"I love you." Lena mouthed, the tears finally escaping.
Ava disappeared through the security area.
We'll see each other again soon Ava. Right?
