Harbor Park
Walking across the carpark, Lena saw Ava by the waters edge. "Lena," she called out. Ava waved. "Have you been here long?" Ava, who'd already been there for an hour and a half, "Nah, just got here myself. You ready? Do you want me to help you stretch?"
"Thanks," Lena lay on the ground. Ava took hold of her ankle and because stretch out Lena's leg muscles. Looking directly into Lena's blue eyes, "Thanks for coming today. I was really looking forward to it!"
"Me, too!"
Ten minutes later they were ready to go. The two quietly ran around the lake, occasionally glancing at one another, but the awkward silence continued.
Figuring Ava wasn't going to speak, Lena asked, "So, did you grow up in Harbor City?"
"Umm, yeah. My mum and dad own a restaurant here. It's called Morgan's Cantina. There's also my younger brother, Diego. What about you?
"Same. Both my parents are academics though. Mum's teaches literature at the Westlake, and Dad is a historian. Other than swimming, what else do you like to do?"
"Dancing, I love to dance. You already know about the Sports Medicine... what else? I love to cook?"
"Really? Then you'll have to cook something for me sometime," Lena suggested. "Absolutely! You'll have to come over to my place sometime and I'll cook for you..." Feeling embarressed at her own eagerness, "Only if you want though."
"It's a date, " Lena laughed. "What about you? What do you like to do, other than swimming?" said Ava trying to change the subject, but secretly thrilled on the inside.
"Me? I like reading contemporary fiction and poetry. I get that from my parents. What else? I participate in LGBTQ+ community events quite a bit... Hiking? Spending time outdoors.."
As Lena was thinking about what else she could say, a cyclist was coming down the path in the opposite direction. Ava stepped off to the side, but Lena failed to notice it. A split second before they collided, Ava reached out and pulled Lena out of the way, causing her to lose her balance and fall to the ground, taking Ava along with her.
Landing on the grass, Ava's body pressed down on Lena, their faces almost touching. Lena stared at Ava's brown eyes. Ava staring back and thought, just a little closer. I'd be able to kiss her? Fuck me, she smells so good...
Lena closed her eyes in anticipation. But the kiss never came. She opened her eyes to find that Ava also had her eyes closed. Is she waiting for me to kiss her? I really want to kiss her!
Realising they been holding on to each other for quite a while, Ava jumped up apologising... "Sorry, sorry! It's just the cyclist was coming.. and... sorry.."
"Don't apologise.. Thanks for saving me... And I didn't mind you being on top of me either..." Lena grinned. "Shall we keep running? Are you hurt?"
" I'm fine, let's keep going."
They continued to run in silence, both in their own thoughts. Both thinking about how close they just were, and how long it'd be before they'd be that close again?
When they finally returned to the carpark, Ava asked "Would you like to come over next week some time? I can cook you some dinner?"
"Sounds good. I'm free next Thursday. Does that work for you?"
"Yep, works for me... 6pm okay? You can invite Maya if you like..."
"Text me your address. I'll message Maya and find out if she wants to come." said Lena happily.
Unsure what to do next, they two awkwardly hugged each other, then went here seperate ways.
