The school day passes, and 🎶my brain is in another world.
Yeah, another world. Yeah, mhmm yeah. In another world yeah🎶
I'm zoning out, hard, on absolutely nothing.
"Hey, uh babe?" James snaps me back to reality.
"Oh fuck, sorry, I don't feel too well," I say.
We're sitting at our new hangout spot, and in which we call it "Banana."
Why banana for a tree that doesn't grow anything besides leaves?
Because it was the first thing that popped into our head, and we could not stop thinking about it.
Kill is looking closely at something, I don't know what he's looking at, but he's looking at it all up close and personal.
"I want...." Kill trails off as a squirrel catches the corner of his eye.
"Yeah, what do you want?" I asked as I kicked a nearby tree nut.
He falls backwards, and says, "just a friend. Someone who gets me, y'know?"
I nod my head. "I've been through that my whole life. James was the first one I ever met that didn't leave me. And I hope you're not gonna leave us. We're a friend group, after all."
"Wait, what? You two consider me your friend?" He sounded surprised.
"Yeah, you're our friend, right James?" I elbowed James.
"Yeah."
"What's wrong?" I look down at him.
"Just thinking. About the past, y'know?"
"Let it go." If I'm gonna be honest, I can't let go of it.
"It's hard to do that, y'know?" He replied.
"Yeah..."
"So uh... Lee, you're uhm trans?" Kill stuttered.
"Uhm, yeah, last time I checked." I half joked. "I checked this morning, just to make sure I was still trans." I laughed.
"I-" Kill sat up. "My life's a mess... Oh fuck, I'm not ready."
"That's fine, I never felt ready." I blurted.
I didn't know what he was talking about, but I related somehow.
"I just can't fucking take this shit anymore!" Kill screamed as he stood up and started slamming his backpack against the tree. "My stupid parents don't know how to support a fucking non-binary kid! They don't support this awesome community, and if I were to tell them I'm not a boy, they'd explode! I just wanna die!"
My eyes went really really wide.
"ARGHHHJHHHH!!!" Kill screeched, as they climbed up the tree."I'm queer, I'm non-binary, I use he/they, and my parents suck!" He yelled as they jumped down the tree.
"Kill!" I rushed over to him.
"And no one loves me the way I want to be loved," he spoke.
He rolled over, and stared up at the sky. "I'm sorry, Lee and James," he said
"What for?" I asked.
"My random anger outburst."
"It's fine," James and I said in unison.
"At least we know your pronouns now." I look over at him.
"Oh, yeah! That's good." They smile.
I smile. At least I'm not alone in this world.
