"What are you gonna do after we get there?" MK asked Macaque suddenly, wondering if he'd go right back to being by himself or stay.
"Well I can't imagine Wukong will be very forgiving for me shooting you and all, so I'll probably be not too far behind you." The man chuckled darkly, mirth in his tone while MK blanched at the suggestion and gasped loudly.
"Don't say that! He's not gonna-"
"Gonna what? Kill me? He might just kill me for keeping this from him." Macaque chuckled, totally unbothered with the idea of his own death while MK paled, face white.
"No! That's not fair! I asked you to keep it from him, I-" Wukong stirred next to him and MK froze, body going rigid and cheeks warm when he realized he'd just been yelling in a car of sleeping people.
At least Mei looked too deep asleep to have heard, and Sandy was out like a light, probably trying to sleep off the last of the sedatives. Just when MK hoped that Wukong would go back to sleep he heard the man's drowsy voice.
"Waz 'appening?" He mumbled, eyes cracking open and nearly incoherent and MK winced, shuffling back and patting his head.
"Sorry, everything's fine. You can go back to sleep." He said softly, hoping that he would but at the sound of his voice, Wukong's eyes sprung open, a smile appearing on his sleepy face.
"MK? You're awake?" He asked, sounding more and more awake by the second and MK sighed, realizing he'd woken him up and feeling guilty as he nodded.
"Yeah, sorry for waking you." He apologised, but Wukong waved it off, stretching his arms out with little clicks and pops.
"No, no, it's okay, I didn't want to sleep for too long anyway. You doing alright though kiddo? Good sleep?" He asked attentively, looking MK up and down like he was checking he was alright with his eyes before pressing his hand against MK's forehead again and MK ducked away from the fussing, cheeks warm.
"I'm fine!" His voice came out squeaky and he cleared his throat, trying again.
"I only just woke up a little bit ago myself."
"Yeah? You feeling any better?" He asked, talking about the supposed 'cold' MK claimed to have and he nodded, fighting down the guilty expression that threatened to show.
"A little, yeah." His arm burned fiercely, but he did feel a touch better. He had more energy now than he did before his sleep, and at least now he wasn't having a breakdown over the things he'd seen in Jīng's basement and the woman herself.
The woman he'd killed.
Grimacing at the reminder, his thoughts twisting back to that horrible sound of her screams echoing in his ears he wondered if he'd ever be able to forget that noise or if it would haunt him for the rest of his short life.
"You sure?" Wukong asked, touching his shoulder lightly and MK snapped out of his thoughts, looking up with a fake smile that pulled at his cheeks.
"Of course I am. Everything's fine now." He said and Wukong's expression softened like a cloud, reaching over to put an arm around MK's shoulder and tug him close.
"It sure is."
MK knew he wouldn't be saying that if he knew, and guilt once again threatened to drag him down. He wasn't sure how he managed to keep a smile on his face but he did, leaning into his older brother's touch selfishly and soaking up the affection.
"Hey, now that you're finally awake, Wukong, you should take a turn driving." Macaque piped up from the front, and Wukong pouted, tugging MK a little closer and resting his chin on his head.
