He wasn't gonna get scared.
...He did. After everything that had happened, you'd think MK wouldn't be freaked out by weird, dead nuns that came back to life but somehow he was, his hands fiddling nervously as he resisted the urge to look away.
At some point in the movie, though MK couldn't remember when or how, Wukong had moved closer to him and now had an arm slung around his shoulder, MK leaning into him more and more every time a jumpscare left his heart racing.
A particularly bad jumpscare made him shriek quickly clamping his hands over his mouth as he squeezed his eyes shut and he felt Wukong's arm get tighter around him, the protective feeling making it easier for MK's heart to stop pounding in his chest stupidly.
Stupid. It was so stupid. He shouldn't be freaked out by this when he'd faced so much worse in real life!
"You know, if you're not enjoying this we can put something else on," Wukong spoke suddenly, pausing the movie as MK shook his head.
"No, it's okay. I'm okay, really." He wasn't, and Wukong didn't play the movie again, instead getting up off the couch.
"Nah, you know, this movie isn't as fun as I remembered it being. Let's watch something else, I bet they've got some cool action movies here, wanna take a look with me?" Wukong asked and MK nodded as he got up, oddly grateful and warm as he started looking through the DVDs for something else.
They ended up finding a movie neither of them had watched before, a murder mystery, and this time MK was able to relax and enjoy himself, having a good time trying to call out who they each thought was the killer and they talked over the clues.
It was fun, and by the end of the movie, MK pouted when it was revealed that Wukong's weird guess had been correct, huffing at the other's satisfied smirk.
"No fair! How'd you know?" Mk cried out, crossing his arms and pouting as Wukong ruffled his hair, a grin on his face.
"Guess I'm just cool like that." He said and MK laughed, shaking his head.
"Nu-uh, you just got lucky."
"Is that so? Well, this movie has a sequel so let's watch the next one and when I get it right again you'll have to admit that I'm just amazingly talented." Wukong offered and MK was up for the challenge, determined to get it right this time as Wukong got up to put the next one in, MK bouncing in place as he waited for the movie to start.
By the end of the movie, Wukong was proved right again and MK groaned loudly, sulking as he threw himself backward so he was lying down on the couch, his legs in Wukong's lap.
"No fair! How didn't I see that?"
"Cause you're not as observant as me." Wukong boasted and MK crossed his arms.
"Not true! I'm super observant, nothing gets past me." He lied and the responding snort told him that Wukong knew he was lying as well.
"Right, I believe you, kid." It was obvious he didn't.
"Not a kid," MK mumbled out instead petulantly only to look back and see Wukong's eyebrows raised.
"Pretty sure sixteen is definitely a kid." He said and MK shook his head, sitting back up.
"But emotionally I'm basically an adult. I'm responsible and I cook and I can drive. So yeah, not a kid." MK boasted with a confident, satisfied look on his face. He hadn't felt like a kid when he'd been looking after Bai He, at least.
"Hmm, I dunno. You're pretty immature compared to me." Wukong said and MK gawked, immediately offended.
"Hey! That's not true! I'm plenty mature!" He huffed, but even he heard how petulant he sounded in his defensive tone. It was like Wukong brought out the childish side of him and he groaned as he leaned back on the couch.
