Chapter Eighteen: He kidnapped me and robbed my candy stash.

Austin had brought me into the middle of nowhere to kill me. I was pretty much boarder line out of breath as I tried to catch up with him. He seemed to know to avoid all the sticks and roots of trees that were a falling hazard.

While I was tripping over every second one.

"Melody, it'll be dark by the time you get there if you keep walking so slowly."

"I'm trying not to die."

"You're over exaggerating."

"I'm not the one acting like this is Bear Grills, you ass."

"Melody, this is not the hike you think it is."

"Anything that isn't a walk in the park is a hike, Austin."

He stopped walking and turned around to face me. "You're kidding, right?"

There is times in my life when I wish this I was an outdoorsy person and liked running, but I wasn't. I stayed inside all day in my bedroom reading books, watching television or writing songs. This was completely out of my comfort zone.

Austin shook his head and walked towards me with ease. He held his hand out to me and I stared at it. "Melody, take my hand."

"Then we'll just fall together."

He shook his head, "I won't let you fall and if you keep going at the pace you're going we're never going to make it."

"Make it where? We are surrounded by trees."

Austin didn't say anything and grabbed my hand. I watched as his fingers wrapped around my hand. "What are you–"

He pulled me forwards and I sighed heavily, staring at the ground to make sure I wasn't going to trip over any branches. I must've missed one as I stumbled only for Austin to pull on my hand. His other hand caught my waist and I fell into his chest, hitting my head off his shoulder.

"Ow," I moaned, rubbing my forehead.

"You're so stupid," Austin said, shaking his head at me. "Melody, you're tripping because you're paranoid."

"No, I'm tripping because these trees obviously don't like being disturbed."

Austin grinned at me, "You're blaming the trees?"

"What else am I supposed to do?"

Austin shook his head, "You should be happy we're here."

"Here?" I repeated, looking around to see we were still surrounded by trees. "Where are we exactly?"

Austin pointed behind me and I looked over my shoulder only to turn fully towards the view.

He brought me to a cliff.

I didn't even know we have cliffs around here. I blinked, walking towards it only to see underneath was a lake. I turned back to Austin who was walking behind me. His hand still on my waist guiding me. "How did you find this?"

He shrugged, "Luck."

"Luck only gets me two dollars on a scratch card," I muttered, letting go of his hand to step closer to the edge.

Austin hand tighten around my waist and I blinked as he pulled me back against him. "Melody, you can barely walk here. There is no way you're walking towards the ledge. You'd fall."

"I'm not that clumsy."

"Lying doesn't suit you, Melody."

I sighed, "You're such an ass. I would totally be able to go over there."
