Chapter Twenty-Nine: Now we both have princes.
"You're wearing my clothes," I pointed out.
"Melody, you're wearing my clothes."
I blinked, looking down at the designer sweatpants and hoodie that I once stole from Austin. "Okay, point taken. Do you think they'll notice?"
"Doubt it," Austin shrugged, glancing at his house as we sat outside it in his car.
We've been sitting outside it for the past ten minutes with neither of us making the move to get out of the car. We were only here for dinner or at least that's all Austin promised his mom when she called asking him to come home.
"We can go to Andrew's after," I shrugged, "he's holding a games night."
Austin glanced at me, "what age are you again?"
"Ha ha," I rolled my eyes, "You're so funny. I'll have you know games nights are a vital part of our friend group. They unify us."
"Melody, you're not a competitive person. You probably lose them all."
I narrowed my eyes at him. "I'd win against you."
"Maybe you're only competitive with me," Austin muttered, before he sighed and unbuckled his seatbelt. "Come on, let's go in and get this over with."
I nodded, unbuckling my seatbelt and climbing out of the car. "What's the worst that could happen?"
"Melody, don't ask questions you don't want to know the answer to," Austin told me as we walked towards the front door. He placed his hand on the handle and turned to look down at me. "Kick my leg underneath the table and we'll leave, no questions asked."
I smiled at him softly. I doubted that I'd need to kick him, but I liked the reassurance that he was giving me if I did want to leave. No questions asked and Austin would get me out of there.
His family unsettled me, but I was putting that down to the fact that they were the Coles. They were a family that own a multi billionaire business empire.
Yet, the face of the family, the one who is said to be the most important of them all, didn't unsettle me at all.
Austin grabbed my hand and pulled me into the house. I glanced around the house to see there was no sign that a party was held here yesterday. It was spotless and untouched.
"This way," Austin told me softly, pulling me down the hallway and into a room on the right that I haven't been to yet.
He pushed open the door and silence fell over the room we were after walking into. I bit my lip, telling myself that I was allowed to be here. That Austin had one condition about coming home for dinner and that was bringing me with him.
I didn't know why he wanted me with him, but I had a feeling that he didn't want to be alone with his family.
They didn't just unsettle me, they unsettled him too.
"Melody!" Belle squealed, "you can sit beside me. Please!"
I looked away from Austin to look around the dining room. His father sat at the head of the table. His mother and Nate either side of him. Then there was Thea beside Nate and Damon beside Elizabeth. Luke sat beside Damon and Belle beside Thea.
There were two free seats at the end of the table. I wondered if Austin purposefully sits at the end of the table. He pulled out the chair beside Belle and I felt his hand leave mine as he motioned me to sit down.
"Thanks," I mumbled to him, feeling everyone staring at me. My face was probably bright red right now as I sat down beside the now nine-year-old. "Hi, Belle. Did you have fun at the party yesterday?"
