Chapter Twenty-Five: You're my other arm candy, right?

"Nope, can't do this," I mumbled to myself in the mirror of Austin's en-suite. I stared at the beautiful dress that was on my body and then back up to my face and groaned.

I was ruining the dress.

"Melody." There was a soft knock on the door. "How long does it take for you to get changed?"

I sighed and opened the door only for Austin's eyes to widened as he took in the dress I was wearing. I didn't blame his reaction. The dress was beautiful, the only problem was the girl in the dress.

"I-uh-you-"

I wanted to slam the door in his face. I knew how I looked I didn't need him to rub salt on my wounds. "Don't tease me," I told him, trying to keep the anxiousness from my voice. "I'm fragile."

His eyebrows furrowed together. "No-what-I–" Austin took a breath. "Melody, you look good. You look really good."

"Lying doesn't suit you," I mumbled, trying to ease my nerves.

Austin shook his head, taking a step towards me, his eyes trailing down to the dress again before he met my eyes. "I don't lie, at least not to you."

I bit my lip and glanced down at the dress. "I think it looks funny on me," I whispered to him, voicing my feelings out loud. "I don't wear dresses and I certainly don't have a body like Nicole or Thea or–"

"It was made for you, Melody," Austin said softly, "just for you, alright? I gave Celine all the measurements she needed. You left your clothes here before, remember? Nobody is a better fit for that dress than you."

I stared at him, "Why me?"

"Because you–"

"Peasants, I am charitable enough to greet you with my pre–oh, am I interrupting something?"

Austin and I jumped away from each other realising that we were way too close as Reece barged into his bedroom.

"Okay," Reece trailed off glancing between Austin and I before he stared at me, a grin on his face. "Jess, you look amazing, just like I knew you would."

I smiled, my face already feeling warm as I looked at Reece. "Thanks, Reece. I need to thank your mom for her hard-work."

Reece shook his head, "then you'll just be practically thanking Austin. He did most of the designing."

I glanced at Austin to see him looking at Reece, scratching the back of his neck. "Reece, bring Melody downstairs while I get changed? Everyone should be in the kitchen."

"So avoid the kitchen," Reece noted, before extending his hand out to me. "My lady."

I grinned at him, "Just because I'm wearing a dress doesn't mean I'm your lady, Reece."

"On the contrary, I think I'm quite the arm candy."

I shook my head, glancing at Austin as I placed my hand in Reece's. "You're my other arm candy, right?"

"Yeah, Melody." He gave me one of his signature lopsided smiles, "All yours."

I looked back at Reece to see him looking between Austin and I mumbling something underneath his breath about seeing something coming. I pulled on his hand and grinned as he stumbled forward. "Come on, slowpoke. You have to introduce me to the Cole's."

"Reece, don't you dare–" the door shut behind us cutting Austin off.

I stared at Reece as he glanced to the bedroom door behind me and then to me. "What's up?"
