Chapter thirty-six: My gal-pal is hurt and I have the survival kit.
The guys had practice after school and I was going to find Madison to talk to her. I couldn't go home today without talking to her. She was my best friend. We had to sort this out.
"Hey Melody, wait up."
I turned around in the middle of the school corridor to see Austin Cole dressed in a soccer jersey and a pair of shorts.
Suddenly, I felt very very warm.
He smiled as he jogged up the corridor to me. "Where are you running off to?"
"Detention," I told him, trying not to stare a his legs. He never skipped leg day. "I-uh-I'm trying to find Madison."
"She's probably behind the bleachers," he told me, taking my hand in his. "By the way, we're going shopping with Reece after practice."
I groaned, letting him drag me down the corridor. "Can't you just drop me home? I'm still covered in green paint."
"We'll stop there before we head shopping," Austin comprised. "Anyway, he wants to buy you an outfit for the party."
"But we have so much time to buy–"
"Melody, it's Reece we are talking about. There is no talking your way out of it."
I sighed, "I hate shopping."
"I'll buy you a CD."
I grinned, "really?"
Austin hummed, pushing open the door that lead out to the soccer field and bleachers. "I realised you have no Rainbow kitten surprise CDs."
"Never heard of them."
"That's a red flag," I heard him mumble.
I laughed, nudging his arm with mine. "Austin, I'm pretty sure I have redder flags than not hearing of a band."
He glanced down at me, "I'll have to warn the sea of fish."
"I thought we agreed to stop comparing people to fish."
Austin grinned at me as we reached the edge of the bleachers and I glanced out to see the team already warming up on the field. "Are you late?"
"Fashionably," Austin shrugged, "I had find you, didn't I?"
"Austin, get over here and stop talking to your girlfriend," Coach yelled angrily, obviously not wanting to waste anymore of the practice session.
Austin's hand slipped out of mine and I raised an eyebrow at him waiting for him to yell something back at Coach. To say I wasn't his girlfriend, but his friend that was a girl.
"See you later, Melody. Good luck with the Goths."
I watched as he ran onto the field and my heart raced in my chest as I realised that he didn't deny it.
He didn't tell coach that I wasn't his girlfriend.
What did this mean? Did it have anything to do with the almost kiss? Did we almost kiss? Was I overthinking that too or did it really happen?
"Well, if it isn't Jessica Evans or should I call you Melody now because seemingly that's all people are calling you?"
I looked away from the field to see Madison walking out from behind the bleachers. I glanced behind her to see Gothic Greg with a smirk on his very my still bruised face.
Madison narrowed her eyes at me. "Why are you here if you're not going to speak? Do you just want to make me out to be the bad guy again? Because that's all you do, right? You play the victim every single time."
