Chapter thirty-three: Maybe we'll skip the tea, yeah?
There was a small boy skateboarding straight towards me.
"Woah," Austin grinned as he moved to stand between me and the small skateboarding boy. "No running Melody down, little man. She's here to help."
"Melody?" I could hear the surprise in the little boy's voice and I stared at Austin back wondering just who this kid was to him.
Austin moved out of the way and the kid now appeared in front of me, a toothless grin on his face. "She's way prettier than I thought."
Yeah, I was definitely as red as a tomato right now.
"Hi," I smiled down at the child, "I'm Jess."
The child extended his hand out to me. "I'm Kyle, but you can call me little man if you like."
"Hi Kyle," I smiled at him, glancing at Austin who was now holding the skateboard. "How do you know Austin?"
"He's friends with my dad," Kyle smiled brightly at me, "and he sleeps over sometimes. You know, he always talk about you, especially to dad. He's like–"
"Alright, little man I'm going to tickle you if you tell Melody everything about me," Austin threatened him playfully as he handed him his skateboard. "I thought you how to skateboard safely, you better not have forgotten."
Kyle nodded, his face suddenly turning serious. "I looked up YouTube videos. I'm going to be a better skater than you someday."
"Yeah?" Austin smirked, "I've never tried to run into a girl before."
"Austin?" I heard an older man call out.
I looked down the hallway to see an older version of Kyle walking towards us with a mug of tea in his hands. He smiled gently at the three of us before his eyes landed on me. "You must be Melody."
Austin glanced at me, "Melody, meet Jay. He owns the carnival I took you to the other day."
Austin works for Jay?
"Hi," I smiled at him, "I'm Jessica."
Jay smiled, glancing at Austin. "Does she mind you introducing her as Melody to everyone?"
Austin seemed confused by his words and then glanced back at me. "You don't mind, do you?" He seemed unsure of my answer.
I shook my head. "No, Austin. I don't mind."
"Austin," Jay said softly, "could you put Kyle to bed? I think you promised him a new comic."
Austin nodded, "yeah, come on, little man. I have the next spider-man comic for you."
"Cool," Kyle exclaimed, shooting me a grin, "bye, Melody. We can hang out next time?"
I nodded, "yeah, we'll hang out next time. Maybe you can teach me to skate?"
"Austin's way better than I am," Kyle smiled at me, before looking at Austin. "You should teach Melody."
"Yeah, maybe I will," Austin smiled as he ruffled his hair and walked down the hallway. "Jay, no scaring Melody."
