Rami and Rora were sitting in their usual spot at the local café, an airy corner by the window. The sun streamed in, casting a warm glow over their table scattered with notebooks and iced coffees.
"Rami, I swear, your taste in music is from the Stone Age," Rora teased, scrolling through Rami's playlist. "Who even listens to Jazmine Sullivan anymore?"
Rami rolled her eyes, taking a sip of her iced latte. "Excuse me, Rora, but Jazmine Sullivan is a powerhouse. Pick Up Your Feelings is a modern classic."
"Modern classic? More like a niche taste," Rora shot back, grinning. "You need to get with the times, girl. Billie Eilish is where it's at."
"Oh please, Miss 'I Listen to Whatever Is Trending'. Just because Billie Eilish is popular doesn't mean she's good," Rami retorted, leaning back in her chair. "You have no idea what real music is."
"Real music? You mean that mopey stuff you play when you're feeling dramatic? Yeah, no thanks," Rora quipped, flipping her hair dramatically. "Besides, I know for a fact you secretly like some of my songs."
"Name one," Rami challenged, raising an eyebrow.
Rora smirked. "How about Bad Guy? I caught you humming it last week."
Rami's cheeks flushed. "That was a moment of weakness. It's catchy, I'll give you that."
"A-ha! Victory!" Rora exclaimed, raising her arms in triumph.
"Don't get too comfortable," Rami warned playfully. "I'm still winning the movie debate."
Rora scoffed. "Oh, you mean your obsession with those boring art films? Give me a good action movie any day."
"Action movies are so predictable," Rami argued. "It's always the same plot: hero saves the day, explosions, and the end."
"And art films are just a bunch of people staring into space, contemplating life's meaning," Rora countered. "Boring!"
"At least they make you think," Rami said with a mock-serious tone. "You could use a bit of intellectual stimulation."
"Oh, I think plenty," Rora replied, smirking. "Like right now, I'm thinking about how to get you to admit that my taste in music is superior."
"Keep dreaming," Rami laughed. "It'll never happen."
Their banter was interrupted by the arrival of Chiquita, carrying a tray with two fresh pastries. "Here you go, guys! I thought you could use a treat to cool down your debate."
"Thanks, Chiquita," Rami and Rora said in unison, both smiling.
Chiquita sat down with a knowing look. "Still at it, huh?"
"Always," Rami and Rora said together, then laughed.
Rora turned to Chiquita with a mischievous grin. "Hey, Chiquita, who's your favorite singer?"
Chiquita didn't hesitate. "Olivia Rodrigo, hands down. Her music is amazing!"
Rora clapped her hands together. "See, Rami? Even Chiquita knows what's up! Olivia Rodrigo is awesome."
Rami sighed dramatically. "Great, now it's two against one. But I'll stick with my Jazmine Sullivan classics, thank you very much."
Rora smirked. "You know, Rami, it's okay to admit that Jazmine Sullivan's style is not everyone's cup of tea. There's a whole new world of music out there."
Rami raised an eyebrow. "Oh really? And what exactly makes Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo so special?"
Chiquita chimed in, "Olivia's lyrics are so relatable. She's real and raw, and her voice is incredible. Plus, her songs have so much emotion."
Rora nodded enthusiastically. "And Billie Eilish is a genius! Her music is unique, and she's not afraid to be different. She's a breath of fresh air."
Rami chuckled. "I get it, I get it. But sometimes, you just can't beat the soulful vibes of a Jazmine Sullivan track like Pick Up Your Feelings."
Rora leaned in, eyes sparkling with mischief. "You know, Rami, maybe we should have a music night. I'll play my favorites, and you can play yours. We'll see who survives."
Rami laughed. "Oh, it is on. But don't cry when Jazmine Sullivan's powerful vocals blow your mind."
"Don't worry about me," Rora shot back. "Just be ready to face the brilliance of Billie and Olivia."
Chiquita giggled, shaking her head. "I can't wait to see this showdown."
They all laughed, the friendly competition palpable. But then, Rami's expression softened. "You know, it's funny. We get so worked up about our music preferences, but the real reason we love these songs is because they mean something to us."
Rora nodded slowly. "Yeah, you're right. Billie's music makes me feel understood, and it's like she's singing about my life."
Rami smiled. "And Jazmine's songs remind me of powerful emotions, and they always resonate with me."
Chiquita chimed in, "And Olivia's music gives me strength. It's like she's putting my feelings into words."
They all sat in thoughtful silence for a moment, the realization sinking in.
Rami broke the silence with a grin. "Alright, truce. We can agree that music, no matter the artist, is important because of how it makes us feel."
Rora raised her iced coffee. "To music and the feelings it brings out in us."
Chiquita joined in, raising her own glass. "Cheers to that!"
As they clinked their glasses and dug into their pastries, the playful bickering faded, replaced by a deeper understanding of their shared love for music. Beneath the teasing and the jabs, there was an undeniable bond of friendship, one that made these moments of connection all the more meaningful.
