The surgery had been long and taxing, but the outcome was worth every second. Arizona Robbins, along with Jo Wilson and the surgical team, had successfully performed a Mirror Syndrome with an In-Utero Blood Transfusion. Both the mother and the baby were now stable. As the mother slowly woke up, her eyes fluttered open to the sight of her husband standing by her bedside, tears streaming down his face.
"You're okay," he whispered, his voice trembling with relief. "Thank God, you're okay." He held her hand tightly, his tears now falling onto their joined hands.
Jo Wilson stepped forward, a reassuring smile on her face. "The surgery went perfectly. Both you and the baby are doing well."
Arizona stood beside Jo, watching the tender moment between the parents. However, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Y/N by the nurse's station, diligently filling out charts. Arizona's attention was soon diverted when the same overly friendly nurse from lunch approached Y/N, gently caressing her arm and engaging her in conversation.
A pang of jealousy hit Arizona as she observed the interaction. The nurse seemed to be more touchy and flirtatious than ever, and Arizona found herself unable to look away. Each second felt like an eternity as she watched the nurse lean closer to Y/N. Arizona's heart raced with envy and frustration.
Then, Y/N's expression changed. She looked uncomfortable, her body stiffening slightly as she gently excused herself and moved to the end of the nurse's station, leaving the nurse standing there, visibly disappointed. Arizona felt a wave of relief wash over her as she saw Y/N distancing herself from the nurse. Her jealousy began to subside, replaced by a sense of reassurance.
"Dr. Robbins?" The voice snapped her back to reality. The patient's husband had moved from his wife's bedside and was now hugging Arizona tightly, tears of gratitude streaming down his face. "Thank you, Dr. Robbins. Thank you for saving them."
Arizona gently patted his back, her professional composure returning. "You're welcome. It's what we're here for," she replied, her voice steady despite the lingering emotions from what she had just witnessed. She glanced back towards the nurse's station, catching a final glimpse of Y/N, who was now focused on her work, unaware of the emotions she had stirred in Arizona.
As Arizona and Jo exited the patient's room, the echoes of the family's gratitude still lingered in the air. Arizona turned to Jo, a genuine smile on her face. "Thank you for your help in there, Jo. You were amazing."
Jo beamed at the compliment from her attending. "Thanks, Dr. Robbins. It was a team effort."
They walked down the hallway together, the atmosphere lightened by the successful surgery. However, Jo's observant nature quickly picked up on Arizona's previous distraction. Narrowing her eyes and raising her eyebrows, Jo asked, "What were you staring at in there? You seemed a bit distracted."
Arizona's eyebrows shot up in surprise, and she started to panic, her voice faltering. "I wasn't looking at anyone... I mean, anything," she stammered, her denial sounding unconvincing.
Jo's puzzled look turned into one of realization. She peeked over Arizona's shoulder and spotted Y/N at the nurse's station, still engrossed in her charts. The puzzle pieces fell into place, and Jo's expression transformed into a mischievous smirk. "Were you staring at Dr. Y/L/N?" she asked, her tone teasing.
Arizona's face turned a shade redder, and she rolled her eyes, trying to brush off the accusation. "I wasn't staring at anyone," she insisted, her voice flustered as she quickened her pace.
Jo, refusing to let it go, followed close behind her. "I knew it," she said triumphantly, her smirk widening as she enjoyed her attending's rare display of vulnerability.
Arizona, feeling cornered, finally stopped and turned to face Jo. "Okay, fine. Maybe I was looking at her," she admitted, her voice low. "But it's not what you think."
Jo raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. "Sure, whatever you say, Dr. Robbins. But just so you know, you're not as subtle as you think."
Arizona sighed, realizing there was no escaping Jo's teasing. She started walking again, trying to shake off the conversation, but Jo's words lingered in her mind. Maybe she hadn't been as subtle as she thought. Maybe her feelings for Y/N were more apparent than she had realized. As they continued down the hallway, Arizona couldn't help but steal another glance towards the nurse's station, where Y/N was still working, oblivious to the turmoil she had stirred in Arizona's heart.
