Chief Miranda Bailey stood at the head of the conference table, her expression serious and commanding, as the board members settled into their seats. The early morning sun filtered through the windows, casting a warm glow over the room, but there was tension in the air that overshadowed any semblance of peace.
Meredith Grey, always one to question authority when necessary, spoke up first. "Chief, I'm sorry, but what's so important to call an emergency board meeting at 7 AM sharp?"
Bailey nodded, acknowledging Meredith's query, before addressing the room at large. "Thank you all for being here promptly. You'll understand soon enough why I've gathered you at this early hour." She glanced pointedly at the clock on the wall before continuing.
Just then, the door swung open, and Arizona Robbins rushed in, slightly out of breath. "Sorry I'm late," she managed between breaths, hastily taking her seat.
Bailey raised an eyebrow. "Very nice of you to join us, Dr. Robbins," she said dryly, before motioning for the meeting to proceed.
April Kepner, always attuned to Arizona's well-being, leaned over and whispered, "Are you okay?"
Arizona, still catching her breath, managed a nod. "Yeah, just a weird morning," she replied quietly, her mind racing with the events of the night before.
Bailey cleared her throat, drawing everyone's attention back to the matter at hand. "Anyway, as I was saying, I have hired a new orthopedic god." She paused dramatically, relishing the moment as the board members exchanged puzzled glances.
Meredith couldn't contain her curiosity. "Are they as good as Torres?" she blurted out, referring to Arizona's ex-wife and former head of orthopedic surgery at Grey Sloan.
Bailey smiled knowingly. "I think you should find that out for yourselves," she replied cryptically, just as the double doors to the boardroom swung open with a dramatic flourish.
In walked a figure, confident and poised. Bailey introduced, "This is Dr..."
Before Bailey could finish her sentence, Jackson Avery, always quick with recognition, exclaimed, "Oh my, you're Dr. Y/N Y/L/N, the world-renowned orthopedic surgeon from San Francisco!"
Jackson extended his hand eagerly, shaking Y/N's hand with a warm smile. "It's an honor to meet you," he said sincerely.
Y/N returned the smile graciously. "Nice to meet you too, Dr. Avery, head of plastics," they replied politely, their demeanor calm and composed despite the attention.
Meredith, meanwhile, had a realization. "You're the surgeon who published the research on stem cells for growing a full replacement hip," she said, her eyes widening in recognition.
Y/N turned their attention to Meredith, nodding graciously. "Yes, that's correct. It's a pleasure to meet Harper Avery Winner, Dr. Meredith Grey," they acknowledged, their voice carrying a hint of admiration.
As the board members exchanged introductions and pleasantries, Arizona stood frozen in disbelief. April noticed her friend's stunned expression and leaned in, whispering, "Are you okay? What's wrong?"
Arizona glanced at April, wide-eyed. "Are you going to believe me when I tell you she's the woman who took me home last night?" she whispered back urgently.
April's eyes widened in shock. "WHAT?" she exclaimed quietly, her hand flying to her mouth in surprise.
