**Y/N's Perspective**

It had been a few weeks since I'd returned to the OR, and I was finally finding my rhythm again. There was something euphoric about the way my hands moved in surgery, something I hadn't realized I missed so much until I was back in the thick of it. I had made it a habit to bring music into the OR — something upbeat that I could hum along to while I worked. Today, it was some indie rock playlist I'd thrown together, the guitar riffs carrying me through the delicate cuts and bone saws. I couldn't help but sing along softly as I worked, my voice blending with the buzz of the tools.

"♫ Can't stop me now, I'm having such a good time, I'm having a ball! ♫" I belted out a line, laughing lightly under my breath as I sawed through a tibia. I could hear some of the residents chuckling behind their masks, but they didn't dare interrupt me. They were just happy to see me in the zone again.

The surgery was flawless, not a hitch in sight. As I walked out of the OR, scrubbing out, I couldn't keep the grin off my face. "I'm on fire!" I muttered to myself, drying my hands. This was the third surgery today, and I felt unstoppable. I hadn't been this happy in months.

But as I rounded the corner toward the attending's lounge, I saw Bailey waiting for me, arms crossed, an unimpressed look on her face.

"Dr. Y/L/N," she called, making me stop in my tracks. "A word?"

Uh oh.

"Yes, Chief?" I asked, trying to keep the brightness in my voice, but knowing full well this was about to be a lecture.

"You've been back-to-back in surgeries for the past couple of weeks. Five cases in two days this week alone. That's not sustainable, especially not after coming off months of recovery," she said, narrowing her eyes at me.

I rolled my eyes. "Chief, I'm fine. My arms are stronger than ever. I've missed this—"

"And while I appreciate your enthusiasm," she cut me off, "it's not healthy. You're burning the candle at both ends, and I'm not about to let you burn out or injure yourself again. So, you're on break for the rest of the week."

I blinked, taken aback. "Wait, what? That's unreasonable. I'm in my groove! I feel great!"

Bailey's eyes twinkled with that knowing look of hers. "Unreasonable, huh? If you're going to backchat me, Dr. Y/L/N, then fine. Be my guest. Instead of spending your free time in the OR, why don't you go teach the resident skills lab for me?"

She handed me a file and turned on her heel before I could protest.

As I made my way to the surgical skills lab, I couldn't help but feel a mix of annoyance and curiosity. Annoyed because Bailey benched me for the week, claiming I needed a break after back-to-back surgeries. But the other part of me? It was intrigued, wondering what the residents were working on today.

I pushed open the door to the lab and saw five residents standing around a mock surgery setup, synthetic bones and tissue laid out in front of them. Among them were Jo and Edwards, both of whom were focused on their tasks. I scanned the room, noting the tools and setup, then spotted the skill of the day — complex fracture repair in the humerus.

Jo was the first to notice me. She whipped her head around, flashing a bright smile. "Dr. Y/L/N! I hear you're teaching us today."

I smirked, crossing my arms. "Yeah, I guess Bailey figured I needed to be humbled. What's the skill today?"

Edwards glanced up and replied, "We're stabilizing fractures and using the new plate and screw system," gesturing toward the equipment laid out on the table.

A grin crept onto my face. "Alright then, let's make this fun, shall we? First one to stabilize the fracture properly gets to assist me on my next surgery."
